Yes, it is hard at start. Yes, you have to die a bit to many times to get better ships. But f you go past that flaw it opens up to give you great experience of mini-space opera in a form of top down view space shoter, where arcadish elements are almost null and you have all the time to play as you like. And if you die, and you eventually will, you gain xp and can start again with different approach. It can only be considered bad if you try to play is as "some other game" while you should treat it as a game with its own gameplay. I really enjoy it!
Everyone know Diablo and there is nothing new here. But if want to buy it due to advertised "High Res" - do not do it as it does not work. Pictures on store page looks like 1280x1024 scaled down to 640x480, while reality is opposite - on native 1280x1024 screen game looks like stretched 640x480 and no setting is able to fix it. Also, this is one of this game that you better keep memories and do not retry to play in modern days. Gameplay mechanics does not aged well. That combined with low res graphics make it a very disappointing experience.
Great game for Lego and for Star Wars fans, but has two console features that are a very serious flaws while playing on a PC: - controls You really want controller to play. Yes, you can use keyboard but you will break your hands while doing that. Oh, and you can't use mouse to move. - 2 player game Unless you have 2 controllers, you will need to share keyboard. Doable if you are 7-yo, but when your hands grow bigger it is really hard to do. And then, if you want to play it alone... well, technically you can, but it is all designed for 2 characters. AI does its best to control 2nd character but fails 95% of the time. All in all, a good game that I would want to play, but can't.
...you propably still keep playing it and thats ok. If on the other hand you did not liked FTL due to artificaily forced rush at each sector, if that hinderd your sense of exploring, if that didn't let you fully enjoy when you got that one lucky start, in that case this is a game for you! It has everything that was good in FTL - space ships, ship upgrades, collecting resources, randomly generated galaxy, real time battles and mini-encounters that you have to decide what to do and there is no obievios good/bad indicator. But it does not have - or you are able to turn it off - all those iritating details like perma-death (there is one-turn autosave, you decide if you want to use it or die), not being able to go back to merchant that you passed-by due to lack of credits and already mentioned general sens of rush without a reason (gameplay wise). Other then that it is typical, modern rogue-like - with each replay your gain resources and xp, so your next replay is better. Either you do not like that mechanics, in whitch case this is not a game for you, or you love it and you will spend lots of hours having fun with Space Rogue!
