I have been a gamer for 30 years. This is just the best game I've ever played. The city is beautiful, huge, and the sensation of freedom is there. Gameplay is good too, fun to play. My only regret is that they didn't opt for the cover system made for Deus Ex. It would have made gunfight more fun, and we would have been able to see more often our avatar. Of course, there could be some small improvements. For instance, it is too bad we can't customize our implants. That would have been so thematic. Everywhere it is said that chrome is a part of fashion, but we can't choose ours. Having silver / gold / black / white metal on our arms and/or legs, with different shapes, or stuff on our face, would have been a plus. But all these are details. The narrative is brilliant, even better, I feel, than Witcher 3, even if the mood between the two is similar (kind of sad, but in a great way). The twists are strong, the characters very well written and acted. I've played 60 hours, and I want more. I know for a fact that I'll play hundreds of hours with it. I like being in Night City, interacting with its inhabitants. I really hope the dlc will bring fun additions, but I'm not worried. After this time playing this, I'm feeling something pretty weird that I haven't felt often for video games: I feel grateful. I'd love to thank the developers for what they created. This game is a gem. I now consider myself as a CDPR fan. I'm not really interested in multiplayer, but I'll probably buy their multiplayer version of the game when they release it in a few years, just because it's from them. In the meantime, I have high hopes for the dlcs.
While I saw this game, I was expecting a cyberpunk adventure game. And that's what I got for the first half. And I really liked it! This part is a good 4/5. Typical stuff: talking to people, finding objects, progressing in an investigation. But the atmosphere is great, and Rutger Hauer's voice definitely brings a lot to it. Unfortunately, the game evolves with time, with an orientation apparently dear to the developers. Some kind of weird mind twisting horror dreamlike experience. And the more time goes on, the more these parts become important, and I just disliked playing them, until I decided to stop playing. I just watched the end of the game on youtube. So, it is kind of frustrating, because the beginning was really promising, and the very ending is rather good. If the developers could do a pure adventure game, without going into their horror dreamlike stuff, they would do great games. So, I'd definitely wouldn't advise the game at full price. But at a discounted one, just for the first hours of game, it is clearly worth it.
Great game! It is a wonderful mixture between several games : - Fallout 1 or 2, for the turn based combats, and the RPG elements (which are simple, but still, nice), and the freedom we have when traveling - Colonization for the atmosphere of conquistadores, the negociation with the natives, the exploration of lost cities...etc. At the end, we have a great game, with almost no defaults. The only very small frustration I had was the lack of choice of a portrait when we choose our main character (one portrait if you're male, one if you're a female, and that's it). Except that, it works perfectly, with many original ideas (the fact of managing each camp, by deciding who guards, who patrols, who hunts...Etc, the possibility to develop an outpost in the mainland, all the original stories of each companion...Etc). It's sad to think that this game, because it's not backed by a huge company, won't have the success of a Baldur's Gate, because, imho, it is as good, and even better (there you don't start your adventure by chasing rats in a cave ;)). So, to sum up : a must have!
Geee!!! I can't believe it! I dreamed it, Gog made it! The battle isle series was great, but their ancestor, present in its collection is the best turn based strategy game ever : History Line! The graphics are obviously dated, but I never could find such quality after this game! IA is perfect : challenging and at the same time can be beated. The maps are rich. The battle Isle episodes are definitely good too, even if according to me, they couldn't compete with the original. My only thought about history line is that the controls were made with joystick. I really hope that in this adaptation, a change in the controls system has been made. As soon as I finish this review, I'm buying and downloading the game. So I'll know soon enough. :)
I still have the box game, and I play it all again once every 3 years! The story is great and would deserve a movie adaptation! Many twists! And real time adventures are quite very rare (I'm thinking about this one and Gabriel Knight 3, but that's all). Of course, the animation is slow, but the game stays great! Definitely a game worth having ang playing! I have to check if my old version works on Windows 7. If not, I'll buy it again here! I wish games like this could be done today with today technologies (so with better animations). Too bad Gog couldn't get the soundtrack, though, cause some musics were quite good!
