This is the game I cannot start playing after 10PM or I'll end up awake at 5am still playing it. I cannot say anything that other reviewers have not stated already. Setting and premise are great. Tone is spot on. Controls good. Mechanics will kill you. Think about actions and consequences. You can try things, experiment, run your city into ruin. You can slaughter all your people. It's upto you. Or if you want, you can play a game, hate it and start a new one. The bugs are there yes and there is not a lot of meat on the bone yet. But YET, the developers are working to fatten this turkey up and make sure it's got the flavor to keep you there. If you see this game at full price, I will advise the price is a little on the higher side. If you see it for more than 10%, then snag it. Either way, the developers are making the updates free for the very long term and forseeable future. And so far, they've kept their timetable.
It's not a remastered game. It is the game patched and reworked just enough that it'll run on current machines. BUT it is worth every penny. I played this game after playing HW1 and loved it even more. It's got the mechanics of the first that work with some new stuff and some stuff that was never implemented into HW2. The story is a little smaller. Controls are on point. Mechanics are right in the space RTS wheelhouse. Yes the graphics are a little dated. Who cares? And it's been rebranded Emergence. So what? Would you rather pay an extra $30 so they can pay Blizzard for Cataclysm name? Nope. Didn't think so. If you are a Homeworld fan, this a must have. It you like a good story driven game set in space, it's also a good buy too.
I had the originals of these games as well as Cataclysm back in the day. When I heard that they were doing a remaster of them, I was more than a little excited. At the time I couldn't afford them but low and behold, the time finally came when it was the right price. I didn't even jump back into the campaign at first. I went straight into multiplayer. This paid for itself in moments. It was the remaster and update that I wanted. The graphics matched the game and its scale. This is easily going to keep me from trying out EVE Online for the forseeable future. The Single Player finally has the update that it deserves in the graphics and ships match the scope of the story. The horror of the Fall of Kharak still is haunting with the music. The Mothership looks amazing. Fleet battles are finally on scale with what we've been waiting for. Only downside was I had to relearn the controls again but that's normal I think. TL;DR: Buy this if you loved the orginal.
I have this game already but I wanted to add a review. It's a pretty simple and straightforward game. The mechanics don't take long to master. The Graphics have held up so well it's surprise. There's a lot of depth to the game if you zoom in and listen to groups of troops. The story is just within that realm of possibility and that one level you get have to deal with the town defense is pretty twisted with the follow up level being very apropos. It's a game I play when I feel nostalgic or want a bit different mechanics to play with but don't want to get kicked in the teeth by C&C 4's stupid setup.
