This is not your modern sandbox style city builder, Caesar demands perfection. So expect a challenge is all i'm saying :) Requires careful planning, listen to your citizens needs and they (you) will flourish! If you're good enough :P I'm struggling but really enjoying it. If these graphics look cool to you and you feel like playing something like this than I recommend 100% it's a really well made and challenging 90's game. 4/5 from me.
I just finished the game in a little over 20 hours, overall I really enjoyed it. Start in the dark ages of Prague and Vienna and end up in modern London and New York. Great atmosphere and interesting story progression, it's a shame it lacks so much polish much like it's successor Bloodlines. I'd recommend installing the latest 3rd party patch to fix the dialogue scenes and some other fixes (just google latest patch it should be an easy install). GOG might have even included the latest patch since this review? You will need to refer to an online guide from time to time as all the stat and skill information was inside the book that came with the game. It's a great game but i give 3/5 stars because the AI is barely functional.
Giants Citizen Kabuto is a hard game to review, don't get me wrong it's fantastic but not really like anything i've played before. The graphics were really nice for it's time and haven't aged too badly, still very playable. Gameplay is challenging with good pacing (each mission manages to introduce something new). I absolutely love the humor though. Just a very charming game. Also recommend downloading the (unofficial) 1.5 patch as it has nice graphical improvements and some bug fixes. The GOG version at time of this review is version 1.4.
The "home of light" expansion is huge. X Rebirth was a mess on first release but it's gone through many updates, two expansions and is now a very solid game. If it looks interesting to you then you should get it (especially if it's on sale). Just ignore these X3 fanboys, 1/5 stars? Really??
This is a really good game. Graphics are still really nice even though it was released 15 years ago. Music is top notch and you'll find yourself humming along to some of the tunes while you plan your next move. I still love it. It's absolutely worth buying. P.S You can speed up and slow down the game with + / - on the numpad.
