SimCity™ 2000 Special Edition

Very nice game.

I consider this to be the definitive Sim City. The later versions just didn't grab me the same way this one did. It's a hell of a lot of fun. The graphics are simple, but they're also nice and clean. The play is complex without being overly so, and you have lots to do without being micromanager fodder. Also... "Reticulating Splines".

Master of Orion 3

A massive disappointment.

After MOO2 I was so excited when I heard that there was a sequel coming. Unfortunately, it seems they made a concerted effort to take out everything that was fun in the first two games, and then replace key parts with an extra added helping of dullness. It almost feels like you're playing an excel spreadsheet. If you're a fan of MOO1 and MOO2, don't be fooled into thinking this is going to be more of the same.

The Book of Unwritten Tales

Remarkably good.

The first thing I noticed about this game was how it didn't look even remotely 'ancient' - this could easily be a modern indie game. I was never a fan of point-and-click adventures, but this one has made me reconsider. It's silly, irreverent, graphically brilliant, and very funny. It also looks like it could be a nice casual brain-teaser. Of all the games I've bought from GOG, this one is the one that stands out as the real keeper.
