Pathfinder: Kingmaker - Imperial Edition Bundle

Great RPG, Subpar RTS

Pathfinder: Kingmaker is one of the best RPG experiences I've gotten out of a video game before. The large amount of classes and archetypes allows you to really make the exact character you want, the companions are actually quite interesting and fun to listen to and learn about, and the story is a perfect setup and execution. I honestly don't think they could have handled these things much better than they did... However, there are some serious flaws in the gameplay that severely cripples my enjoyment of the game. The biggest problem being that there is no way to program the AI for your party members. This means that during fights if you want your barbarian to rage at the start of the fight, you have to manually do it every time. If you want your bard to inspire at the start of a fight, you have to manually do it every time. This slows down the combat considerably and makes fights a bit of a chore. This is an especially terrible when playing half caster classes like the magus. When left to its own devices, the AI will not use spells, potions, class abilities, or any other expendable resource. I should be able to program my companions to use healing when there health reaches a certain percentage. I should be able to program my companions to cast their spells up until a certain amount of remaining slots. No programmable AI makes this game hard to recommend to anybody who doesn't want to play on easy mode. But if you can deal with the sloppy control, the rest of the game is amazing.
