This game is just great to play from start to finish, with great story, graphics, music, dialogue, humor and violence. If you're looking for high end, 3D raytraced graphics you won't find it here. What this game is, is a throwback to the golden age before 3D graphics were a thing, but the fun was intense to the point of being visceral. The graphics and gameplay wouldn't feel out of place on the Neo Geo. Gameplay is not just mindless shooting either, since you will have to strategically take shelter and change platforms to avoid bullets. The presentation is also something else. The cheesy one liners Bosses utter mid fight are really memorable and include references to 1980s & 1990s cult classics from Terminator 1&2, The Warriors, Robocop and more. So if you're a 1980s kid you'll be treated with lots of nostalgia For the rest, this is a fun game you'll not get tired of re-playing. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED if you love 2D platformers.
This is a fun 2D platformer. The graphics and gameplay are inspired from the 16-bit generation which was a golden age in gaming, where developers had to compensate for hardware limitations with good game design. The game manages to recapture that! Gameplay is good. Anyone who played the classic Sonic games or Mega Drive classics Rocket Knight or Gunstar Heroes will quickly feel at home right away. Graphics are great. Not raytraced kind of great but very well done pixel art kind of great. Unlike the graphics, the sound is 100% a modern affair. There's speech during cut scenes to keep the story going, with the voice talent and the music being as good as everything else. There are many great 2D platformers on GOG. This is one of the top ones. If cute characters saving the world is your thing, this is the game for you.
I really cannot understand why the scores are so high for this game. It's got some simplistic but good artwork and some good music but the gameplay is beneth mediocre and not very well crafted. You just explore, jump and hit stuff. You also need to collect some coins to buy stuff that forces you to grind. All those reviewers that recommended this have really low standards. There are many great platformers on GOG. Go get Monsterboy, Huntdown, Steamworld Dig 1 & 2 and Mark of the Ninja. Those are GREAT games. This one is not so I'm getting a refund.
I was reluctant to buy this game because it's short and from the screenshots I couldn't judge it was going to be this fun. I am glad I changed my mind. Yes, the game is relatively short but the quality of the experience made it worth the purchase. I'm galdly let the developers take my money. What Creaks is, is a simple interactive story where you find rooms that are a puzzle to get out of. There isn't any frustrating platforming, you'll just be focusing on solving the puzzles, some of which are especially clever and satisfying to solve. But that's not all... How the graphics and animation are used to great effect to create a unique atomsphere and tell the story which is a unique blend of Lovecraftian cosmic-horror with a humorous twist to it. Both the friendly characters and the foes you meet along the adventure are endearing. At one point I even started feeling sorry for a poisonous flying jellyfish. At another I felt joy when 2 enemies met each other and exchanged cuddles <3 . It's got little touches like these that show that a lot of care went into producing the game. And the music... it's just great! There were spots during the game where I just stopped moving and let myself listen to the atmospheric music. So I can highly recommend Creaks. Being short is its only drawback, won't want it to end. My first run took me a little over 6 hours. However, there is substance in that and an experience I am glad to have had. I will definitely check other games from the same studio and if it is another puzzle platformer I am already sold.
I found this game for cheap, claims a 10.5 hour of gameplay and had glowing reviews so I decided to buy it. Graphics, art-style, story, music and controls are good, but I was personally disappointed by it. The character moves around at rate that is too slow for my liking to the point that I kept pushing different buttons hoping to find a speed move or something to speed him up. The characters I also found unrelatable. There is no voice acting, the character make noises and you read what they're supposedly saying. This may have worked well for Donkey Kong and Banjoo Kazoie in the 1990s but here it makes the characters annoying and the conversations (especially during the early tutorials) just slow the proceedings even further. If you read elsewhere that levels are like 1 hour long it's not because the story is packed with events. It's because this game moves slow. The fact that some objectives have to be completed in a time limit makes the slowness frustrating. I don't know if the game is over-rated or if maybe it's just me! Maybe I started playing it in the wrong mood. For some reason it just didn't rub on me. I recommend you try it and keep it if you like it. It's cheap anyway. You could end up having a good time and if you don't, it's your right to ask for a refund like I did.
This is a simple platforming game with a cute presentation, a storyline, some humor and loads of references to retro-computers and fictional robots. You complete each level by jumping obstacles, avoiding dangers, time your jumps and do what every 2D platformer does. But... Is it fun? In it's simplicity yes! I do see myself getting the full game if it's reasonably priced. If you long for that old style of games that were simple to pick up and enjoy, check this out.
This is a good game that is easy to pick up and enjoy, if you are searching for some fun for a cheap price. It's a 2D platformer with little puzzle elements, where you'll be rewarded for using your head. Most of the time you will be searching for metals to mine while avoiding danger and trying not to dig yourself into a rut you cannot climb out of (which is not as intimidating as it sounds). It's a collect-aton where you collect goods to buy new abilities with a simple story to keep it interesting. It's short (8 to 10 hours) but for the price it's totally worth it. The placement of the items also re-organise differently every time you play it, which adds replay value.
I found 'It's a Wrap ' to be quite enjoyable. It's a combination of platforming with a puzzle and I'd highly recommended to those that love to think and solve puzzles. The puzzle element involves You having to time events happening on screen in the right way. Then you have to combine those events playing out with you moving your character to reach the goal. You'll often be required to also carry out some other duties like collecting items. The platforming is simple. No complex moves and no impossible to perform jumps will be required. The main challenge here is figuring out how to time the events so that you can act out the required script. If you are the kind that is easily frustrated when you can't solve a puzzle and hate failing many times this is not the game for you. If on the other hand, you love persisting through a challenge and have a positive attitude about learn from mistakes this is what you'll be doing. You'll need to make mistakes just for the sake of learning. Those that dislike this game, dislike the fact that they need to figure out what the puzzle designer wanted them to do. This is however, what makes the game great! The sense of satisfaction of solving a stage you repeatedly felt clueless about, after 40 to 80 tries is amazing. There is also a story in between levels to reward you for completing it which is fun, especially if you like cinema and are familiar with 80s and early 90s films which are parodied all throughout the game. My only criticism for the game is that I wanted it to be longer. Overall though, I still think it is worth the price. If you are a weakling that wants games to be easy then don't bother with it. If you like to persist, exercise your brain or want to practice your self-discipline muscle, you're in for a rewarding experience.
BG&E is a game worth your attention. If you want fun, LOTS OF variety in gameplay, a good story, a fair but not frustrating challenge, likable characters... BG&E has got them all. At heart it's a 3D platformer yet you will have driving sequences, flying sequences, mini games, simple puzzles, races, rpg elements and some incentives to explore the environments more thoroughly. Unlike most 3D platformers yo won't have a single instant of annoying camera or problem judging distances. In fact one thing you will find odd is that you don't have a jump button. You approach a ledge and the character just jumps over it! You also have some instances when you collaborate with non playable characters. Guess what! They don't get in the way and you don't have to wait for them to catch up with you. It is evident that BG&E has been engineered to challenge you without frustrating. If you die it's because you did something stupid or careless. You won't have instances where you die or get stuck, and curse whoever designed the level or the camera. My only complaint with the game is that it feels short. Either because it is good or because it is really short - I don't know! You can always go through it a second time and explore some environments, or race you might have missed and spend more time on the mini games. If you want a good game to play over a weekend and value variety then this is for you.
