Littlewood

Has great potiential, needs more polish

I've really enjoyed my experience with this game so far, I've enjoyed the town building & decoration element; something that games of this genre have lacked for the most part. Also, having time tied to energy makes the game alot more chill because time doesn't advance until you make an action. Also, I like the art style, it's minimal for the most part, but it's viabrant and has charcter. Despite these good aspects, there are lots of glaring flaws as I play through this. Games like this are about bring the characters to life, something this game fails to do. And although, the dialouge is pretty good for the most part, all your characters do is just stand around doing nothing for the most part. There's also just the overall clunkiness of the games. Blueprints that you already own still appear in shops after you purchase them; and given you can get alot of blueprints, it can get easy quickly to being buying a duplicate blueprint even though you gain absolutely nothing for doing so, so you can easily waste money if you're not careful. Overall, I don't recommend buying this game full price in the current state, I hope that the game devs see this review, because I think this can be an amazing game of the genre if they put more work into it. This could turn from a decent game into a fantastic game quite easily if they just polish and add to what's already there in the world.

War for the Overworld: My Pet Dungeon

Great if you wanna just chill

Generally, I avoid RTS games as I find it quite difficult to micromanage everything within a fast enough fashion. But at the same time, I really enjoy building a base of minions and seeing them do their thang. I'm glad they added this as DLC so I can relax and play the game in my own time and pace.

Tales of Maj'Eyal

This game is THE Shit

For ages now, I've been searching for a game that was open world, had a deep customisation system and a butt ton of classes. This game has all of this and so much more! The game is roughly 20 years old and yet the dev still makes updates for it TO THIS DAY. This rougelike brings the exciting fun of unlocking new races and classes. Each class is unique in itself, the Alchemist, for example, uses gems to create bombs and has a golem guardian whereas the Magic Knight is a beautiful mixture of offense magic & close-combat. It uses a D&D-esque levelling system, meaning you can put all the stat & skillpoints exactly where you want when you level up. There are prereqs of course, but despite that, each character you make can be entirely on its on. I could go on and on about this game but this is a must buy. Especially for the price and especially if you're a fan of open-world RPGs or rougelikes

EARTHLOCK: Festival of Magic

Awesome Game with Minor Flaws

For me, this was one of those few games every year that completely sucks me into its world. My breath had been taken away by how vibrant and colourful the world was. The gameplay is pretty reminiscint of old school turn based RPGs with a few twists. I do like the idea of stance switching, but as other people have said, this game punishes you when you switch stances by using up a turn. I feel like that was lost potiental as they could've encouraged so many different combos with the stances, but I digress. I've loved all the main characters so far and each has a different role in combat, making each character feel unique. I think the bonding system was a step in the right direction, but I feel like more could've been done to it to make it awesome. Things like joint character attacks or defending a low HP character (this may be in the game, I haven't reached the end yet.) I think having your own person island kicks ass too, it's fun to grow all those plants a craftt. I got this on sale for a steal (10 AUD), I'm not sure if I would've paid full price, but then again, I don't for most games. A must have for someone who loves old school JRPGs with a modern twist, beautiful worlds & the ability to overlook a flaw or two.

Celestian Tales: Old North

Has Potential, but needs more Polish

I've only played this game for a few hours but here are my first impressions: Pros: Great Artstyle Great Music Minimal Battle System (for me, it's a plus, as it's relaxing not to have too many options to consider) Interesting variety of characters Cons: Numerous spelling and grammatical errors Few idle animations, could help make the world seem more alive if there were more It's a bit unclear at times on where to go (There is lore book that helps, but it's still not straightforward). Shadowing is a bit weird Ways to Improve: Add more idle animations, I thought the water animations looked really nice & fluid, so I think more of those kinds of animations in the world can make it seem more real and vibrant Some sort of minimap, this might get unlocked later, but I get a bit lost sometimes and a minimap could help circumvent that (have a minimise option so it doesn't clutter up a screen or have it as a separate screen). Double check your text, I know that there is probably a lot to write, but it's worth doing a second/third draft for writing even if it is time consuming. I like to think the developers for this game will learn new techniques for the second installment, because I can see that a lot of love & passion went into this game. I feel like it just needs a little more work to make this decent game into a great game, I'm looking forward to seeing any improvements you make for the second game.
