I was really glad I could find this on here. This was one of those games that you remember playing because you borrowed it from a friend, but lost the disk and never got to play it again and it just sits in the back of your mind for 10+ years. I'm glad it's about as good as I remember. It's too bad the multiplayer isn't up anymore, but that's not the game's fault. The story is not bad either for an RTS game from 2007. It's a pretty standard warstory that goes over-the-top and the premise makes little to no sense, but it has a few good moments of character developement that feel genuine from time to time and gives a good excuse to blow up commies. It's not George RR Martin, but for a strategy game from over ten years ago, it's servicable. This was the first time I played through the Soviet Assault campaign, and that story had much more going for it than the base game. Missions are varied and are a good teaching tool for how to use units. At times you'll be sneaking through woods with airborne units behind enemy lines, other times you'll assault through those lines with a massive tank assault supported by artillery. It's a well paced campaign that keeps you interested. My only complaints are quality of life features that have spoiled me from recent strategy games. It can be difficult to keep track of your units running around the huge maps you'll be fighting in and some way to zip to selected units wouldn't have gone unnoticed. You will have a hard time getting this game to run on Windows 10, but there's plenty of patches out there. Once I found the right one, I didn't get a single crash for the rest of my playtime and havn't had one since. If I got it to work, you will too. Just keep Googling. Overall fun to look at, fun to play, if a bit repetive at times and a story that is above average for it's genre and time.
