Sphere - Flying Cities

Colony building above the clouds.

Apparently this game had a rough start a while back in early access, but the game is quite solid as of now. There is some very cool features and in some ways it reminds me of Frostpunk, but different and doing its own thing. I'm progressing better this time through the campaign, but some things the ingame manual eludes on. Starting to think you have to be very discrete on what you mine and how often. You can easily overload yourself with materials, even if you built three dozen storage structures. Tech progress comes from mining elements that are scattered all over in different quanity. The games story, which is good so far, explains why this is. No cheese detected, seems quite logical, in the near future if we did survive ourselves. Not likely. Its a matter of building your base, strengthing the device core, researching, and flying around what was the planet of Earth. Pretty cool concept, matching story, post apocalyptc, SciFi game. Appropiate sound track, dynamic gameplay, killer graphics, and interesting gameplay. More structure types to build would have been nice, but really it covers all what you need. Food, Health, energy, manufacturing, etc. Its all there, and I like it.

Conquest of the New World

A legend in gaming experience

This year of our lord, 2024, once again I return to playing this epic classic. There are many descriptions here of the game, its mechanics and features. No point in repeating it, but there are some unique things I would share about this game. Colonization of the Americas today is sometimes considered contraversial, especially when you consider whats going on in the world now. But it makes for an epic time and place for historic gaming in a specific sub-genre that has been dreadfully neglected. There are just a few selections after all this time. Sad. The new world this game creates for each map is unqiue, engaging to explore, and is gigantic to most maps in the genre as a whole. You really get the sense of a massive world, with varying geography, and things to discover. Graphics never made a game good, ever, but I do appreciate that for its time this game was cutting edge. The unique uniforms of each nations soldiers, including the First Nations people is quite a nice bonus indeed. The game allows for much customization so that you can configure it to the way you want to play which is really rare. Crushing your enemies is not the only way. Victory points, which can be seen as prestige, allows you to setup games and factions that reward different types of gameplay such as diplomacy, exploration, wealth, etc. Its most awesome. Like another game in this genre you can claim independance, but unkile the other games, this game doesnt end with it. Its just a phase of the bigger picture if one chooses it at all. Name another game that allows you to play the First Nations people? I can think of two titles. Sad. Its very rewarding and satisfying to unite your kin and show those Europeans whose the boss. I can't recommend this game enough, its amazing to this day. It has lots of depth and keeps me coming back year after year.
