Hedon Bloodrite

Decent old-school FPS

It plays like a mix of Unreal and Half-Life. There are numerous scripted sequences and non-combat sequences. There is a lot of reading you can do. Sometimes you have to read to understand what to do. The music (when its not just ambiance) really screams Unreal. It feels to me that Unreal was the primary inspiration for the game, but I am not the devloper so I can't speak for what feeling they wanted to create. But it's also interesting, because some maps you re-tread in different ways. It builds a somewhat cohesive world. Very interesting. In the end, it's its own thing, but definitely old school. I think it's pretty good. The art style is interesting. It definitely comes across as indistinct. I mean that... that's the art style. Soft shaded low-res art with little to no linework. Typically when you think spritework, the linework pops because there are usually so few colors in the sprite work. Here, they appear to aggressively shade the art so it doesn't look as much like sprite work any more. It clearly is, though. The main characters are interesting. Sexy, scantily clad orcs. The player character being a half-demon made me want them to play into her being like half-succubus or something. That's never really gone into. There's a world told, but not much for character stories, just what happens in the game.
