Beautiful and frustrating

The main strength of the game is also it's biggest weak point. The game is beautiful, animations are on point, colors, drawings, background are really a feast for the eyes. But because of that, the gameplay is clunky. All the animations (walking, interacting, taking the stairs) makes everything in the game frustrating. To solve a puzzle, you need to go from one point to another, to jump, to take an object, to do going and comings, and it takes SOOO much time just by playing animations. Adding to that the lack of errors margins : by not doing excatly what the game want even if you know what to do, it's not going to work. You have to be pixel perfect. In conclusion a tedious gameplay for a beautiful game. Still worth playing.

1000xRESIST

Not for me

The game and critics seems very promising, full of emotions, deep story and great atmosphere. I guess i wasn't receptive to it. I tried playing the game two times but i didn't go further than chapter 4. Way to criptic, dialogue options are not clear, answers even less if possible. There is no introduction to the game story, you are dropped in it with words, names and expressions making no sense to you. Then you have dreamlike sequences mixing metaphorical vision and memories, an empty hub where you get lost everytime with no map (for a purpose i guess), monotonous/slow voice acting quite frustrating, and you have a very bizarre game. A game where you feel there is a lot to understand, where serious topics are discussed, where you know something big is hapenning, but nothing is accessible to you. At least during the first couple of hours playing. I really wanted to like it, but i guess it's not going to happen.

Fun and chill

An excellent game mixing exploration, puzzle and fight. The level design is awesome, each time you unlock an area you can see all the effort the team put in this game. The sword gameplay is good enough and enemies do not respawn which is smart. You don't have the time to be frustrated hence it makes the exploration quite relaxing. The only blackspot is the plateforming because of the perspective view you will miss more than one jump. But since there is no death penalty that is forgivable. A great game. Not too long, 10 hours more less depending on your will to explore every corners of the map. I recommand it.

Kathy Rain: Director’s Cut

Good but slow to start

A good point & click game, with a neat pixel art and a voice acting of quality. The story is slow at the begining, but after the first day it gets way better and more engaging. The puzzles aren't to complicated in the way that there is no bizzare object association that does not make sense. Every action is coherent with the story and the objective. The end leave some mystery unsolved, maybe too many. I hope Kathy Rain 2 will answer most of the remaining questions. If you look for point & click, not too long and if a good immersion, go for it.

Planet of Lana

Colorful and easy to play

A cinematic platformer that deliver a comfortable moment for 4 hours or so. The music, the landscape colors composition, the light and sound design bring a feeling of calm. The story is both cryptic and clear as always in those game. With an intuitive game-play and simple puzzles the game's rhythm is perfect. For players who don't look for a challenge but rather a beautiful experience done in a few hours. Go for it.

Good for the soul

One of those gems you wish they were longer. You goal is to make a planet livable again. Really a game that make you feel good, when you see the result of all your work. When you start a map you wonder how it will be possible to make it green again. And then, step by step, trees, birds, water, fishes, all the fauna is there and the place is full of life. You have 3 phases in each map. First you need to grow the grass and clean the water, then in a second time, you grow the biomes (forest, coral, fields of flowers, ect), and at last you discover all the animals, clean everything up and leave. Once you complete all the four maps, you can redo them in their harder version. The main difficult will be to organize the various biomes you can create in order to gather up all of the conditions necessary for the animals to live there. You can restart the map anytime you want, since it generated at random you will not have the same twice. You can also just restart one of the 3 phases so you don't have to start from scratch. A really sweet game you must play.

Broken Pieces

An hidden gem

This is a hard game to review. It's one of those game with obvious weaknesses and the same time you can't help but falling in love with it. I played in the FPS view, added later because the game was first meant to be played in TPS view like a resident evil (first one) or a syberia game. The FPS view works except for the gun fight. Indeed you can either aim or move, therefore you can not see enemies walking toward you from behind, like you would in TPS view. In fact the FPS view isn't available for bosses mainly because it would have mean to re-design fights entirely. Beside that, wow. I am totally blown away by the voice acting (french one), one of the best and most touching i've ever heard. This is clearly the strong point of this game. You care about Elise, you feel her sadness, joy and her misunderstanding of the situation. The other strong point is the story, full of mystery and intriguing when you start to apprehend what's going on. In terms of mechanics, this a metroid vania in 3D but you can only explore during the day. You want to be home before the dark because it's getting quite dangerous. Therefore you have to plan your pathing in advance. There is also a weather mechanic wich blocks/unlocks path. The riddles aren't complicated which is a good thing. Anyway, a buggy game sometimes but with a real soul, a unique story and a touching main protagonist. A must play.

Beyond: Two Souls

Good game but clunky

The game is still good, but with the years, flaws are much more visible. The gameplay is rigid, the fighting system messy and controls clunky. However, the core of the experience remains intact. A quantic dream classic with QTE and choices that will impact how things are going to be (and end). Even if the story can be sometimes predictable (or not coherent) there are genuinely touching moment thanks to a voice acting on point and a really good music. The great strength of the game is in the writing the main characters and their evolution through the story, not the ageing gameplay and controls For that, i enjoyed it. And for that i understand some will not like it. Give it a try !

Haven Park

Comfy

Cute game that will keep you warm during an afternoon. Explore, collect and build to make your island comfy for the future inhabitant. This game is a cross-over between the mechanics of "Animal crossing" and the concept of "A Short Hike". I enjoyed travel across the island, fixing panels and light, making the camps nice and cozy, speaking to the campers helping them in some case. If you're looking for a short peaceful gaming experience (5 hours max), go for it.
