I get a nostalgia Vibe from HOMM2 even though I didn't play it nearly as much as either 1 or especially 3. It's very silimar to 1 in game play and graphics and that's fine, but the map editor is... difficult. For example, it's hard to identify items in the menus because they are very pixelated and it doesn't ID the item when hovering over with the cursor nor when I right click on the item. You can't just move an item by drag/drop and it won't go away from your cursor even if you've placed one already or until you go into another menu of some kind. You have to use the undo button to delete a placed item. Granted, it's the first HOMM game a map editor was included and they clearly learned from it and made huge improvements in 3. Still fun to play! :^)
This has been a fun game to play. I like the graphic design and the gameplay for the most part. I never tried the campaign so I'm trying it this time. It's still early in progression so we'll see. I do find the save system difficult to keep track of especially since I only play it once in a while.
I've played HOMM 3 since it came out and like many others, find this one to be the best of the lot. Most of my time spent with it has been on the map editor. I've created maps of Europe and had plans to map the entire world and make it a campaign game, but my efforts have been thwarted thus far partly due to my deficiencies in technical acumen, my slow pace and my "attention to detail". I like the art style, the gameplay and its stability. It's a great game.
