This game was massively gimped on release, it was built on a really bad game engine and had a very short development cycle. On a technical level, this game is a disaster. Having said that, the story and gameplay (as flawed as the gameplay is), are so incredibly memorable. This is RARE for even a lot of new games to be this memorable, this game is a game I just finished replaying after 7 years of not replaying, I was surprised that I still remembered about 90% of the game. That is how much this game stuck with me, the factions, the weapons, the world building, the companions, the hilarious NPCs like Oliver Swanick and Fantastic, the DLC, there are too many amazing things to write home about this game. This game alongside the original 2 Fallout's, have crafted a world that captures your imagination in ways that few games including the following Fallouts fail to do. I would encourage playing Vanilla 1st time, if you are going to add mods, just add mods that fix bugs, improve performance, and very safe texture mods such as Ojo Bueno and so on.
To the developers, we understand how monetization works, you spend an incredible amount of resources making this game and you add DRM to combat piracy, which would negatively affect your sales and possibly limit your ability to continue making games like this. We understand that. HOWEVER, this game is getting on in its age, I would implore your consideration of the fact, that this game likely is getting less and less sales as time goes forward. In fact, this is a time when piracy can ruin sales, since people will feel less moral objections to pirating a game that is getting on in age, and that is not being sold in DRM free fashion. And most importantly, this site exists to ensure DRM free games can be bought, to ensure they are not lost to time. Please remove all DRM from this game and ensure it can be properly enjoyed by the community that cares so much about this game and its sequels. Thank you
This game is amazing, though it's hard to know how much of it is due to my nostalgia for the game. One really cool thing is the entire game can be played with a mouse, which makes it very relaxing to play and easy to pick up. There is of course keyboard shortcuts and it makes the gameplay smoother to use a keyboard, but if you only want to use one hand it is possible to play. Very RNG based, but it holds up pretty well for some dungeon crawling fun.
I am so happy these games are now DRM free here, it makes it possible to preserve them more easily. I still have my old game discs for the original which runs on Windows XP, one of the most played games of my childhood. I can't say how good these are, when not seen through nostalgia goggles, as I have such a strong nostalgia. Moreover, I have the most time spend with the first 2 games, the last 2 while the most expansive, I've barely played.| They are simple dungeon crawlers, very Diablo II-esque, but with a charming art style that makes these more fitting for children. The entire game can be played one handed with a mouse! This is super cool, I don't know many large games that can be played one handed. It does help to use some of the key shortcuts once you become familiar with the game. They also run on damn near anything, which is nice for weak hardware. Tips for beginning players: 1) When you start, buy a fishing rod and go fishing. Sell the fish, and any possible items you find that you do not want to keep. Make sure you use identity books to identify the enchantments not already identified, this helps raise the items value for sale. 2) Get 3 quests before going in the dungeon, its more efficient to get 3 quests in the same level, so time is more efficient. If you dont get any good ones, save and quit and load back, they get regenerated. 3) Once you get deep into the dungeon, use portals! I used to always walk up and down as a kid, what a time waste. Use portal books, so you can keep going back and forth without wasting time on levels you've outgrown. 4) Stick to the first 2 difficulties if it is your first time playing, it's less grindy that way imo. For later playthrus, harder difficulties makes you need to grind more, which is fine if you are good at the games or if you want to be challenged more. They are all doable, but the first two are less grindy and stats oriented. 5) Magic builds are very OP and fun, I highly recommend. Thank you for your time!
