Diablo + Hellfire

A classic, albeit not flawless

Diablo was one of the first games in its subgenre, and there's a good reason why it became a subgenre: the game rocks, even today. Delving into the catacombs beneath the cathedral of Tristram is an experience that all lovers of this type of game should try. The game offers quite a bit of replayability, with 4 base classes (and two which can be unlocked via commands), 3 difficulties, and a quest system that randomly picks a few different quests, so two playthroughs with the same character may have very different obstacles. However, the game does have its flaws, notwithstanding things that nowadays could be considered bad but were standard then: There are ways to permanently weaken your character, as in permanently, even through new game plus and other difficulties. The character will just never fully recover the missing max HP from that enemy in the third floor, or the mana lost to carelessly poking a shrine. Or, on the other hand, you can boost your base stats much higher than they should be by buying elixirs at the shop and break the game.
