Resident Evil

The First of Its Name...

I've been playing the Resident Evil series for almost as long as its been around. Even after playing the most recent installments (e.g., RE7 and Village) which sport top-notch graphics and voice-acting, the very first RE by game-developing powerhouse, Shinji Mikami, STILL has me glued to the screen. Campy character introductions and voice acting, choppy hand gestures, as well as an elementary inventory system bring back a wave of nostalgia that only amplifies my appreciation for the RE series and its impact on the survival horror genre.

Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth

The Lovecraftian world brought to gamers

Though some gamers today may shun older games the way we do with our elderly population, they possess a spirit and aesthetic - especially horror games - quite rare in modern games. Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth introduces players to a gritty, alternate, early twentieth century New England as envisioned by Howard Phillips Lovecraft. Derpy NPC interactions and movements make for some comic relief when exploring Innsmouth, while the rudimentary inventory system allows explorers to enjoy the mystery and gameplay without worrying all that much about supply conservation and organization. Really takes me back to the good ol' days of the original Xbox.
