This game waas made by a bunch of teenagers that insert shitty jokes into every facet of the game, and forgot to add the roleplaying in their RPG, interesting chracters? What's that? Oh wait no this game was made by the devs of New Vegas, Tyranny, and KOTOR 2, but honestly my description isn't far off. The game feels like it was made by middle schoolers, I'm talking theater kid levels of cringe and stupidity. Go and buy Mars War Logs and The Technomancer, they're clunky but offer a great experience and are usually available for pocket change.
So just like many of the D&D games I have played it has an insane amount of praise and almost all of it is undeserving, just like it's predecesor has some really low effort writing that almost feels childish at times, characters will spoon feed you exposition and tell you things your character should already know and the characters are uninteresting and many of them act as quest dispensers. As for the combat: it's terrible, just like every D&D game with the exception of maybe Baldur's Gate 3. If you're a fan of cheesy lazy storytelling, go play a Bioware game and watch the Star Wars Kenobi show.
People seem to think this game isn't Baldur's Gate because it has combat that isn't the outdated real time with pause that hasn't evolved in years that they seem to love so much, this game isn't just DOS 2 because it has amazing combat, if you've been waiting for Baldur's Gate 3 for decades then yeah it probably isn't going to be everything you imagined it to be. From what I've played it seems like this game is going to live up to the Larian quality we expect from them: the combat is well made and has a lot of interesting ways to kill your enemies, the characters are well written and have their own reasons to join you on your quest, from what I've played of the story so far it's pretty good. BUT I do not enjoy the $60 price tage for an early access game but a p[art of my feels Wizards of the Coast is responsible for that and not Larian, one of the developers also said some outdated bullshit about white men, and the way the early access for this game is it feels like we're "beta testing" and they're developing the game as they go along, it doesn't feel like the early access for DOS 2 which was meant for the community to give their feedback on what they have already made so they could change things before the final release so they could release the best version of the game, and then gave us a free definitive edition upgrade with some neat free content, also that game is $40. If you have faith in Larian then go ahead and buy it now, but I recommend waiting for the full realease jsut in case.
I played this game fucking decades ago and lost it so I bought it here, but when the opening cutscene end the title screen flshes rapidly and I actually had a seizure, it seems I'm th eonly one who had this issue and I'm sure theres a fix for it but I'm writing this review as a warning if you have epilepsy, make sure to install a fix first
I'm noticing a very odd glitch or issue where the music seems like it cant make up it's mind. The songs themselves sound fine but it keeps switching between the amped up metal music to the calm synth music every few minutes, and whenever a sound effect plays such as hitting an enemy with the sword or shooting a gun it feels as if the music quiets down and waits its turn and lowers it's volume until the sound effect is done playing, the first level is also very dark and I can't see much, and gotta be honest not a big fan of having to reload the assault rifle I liked the ammo system in the first game way more but the way the assault rifle works I feel as if it breaks the flow of the game.
