Breath of Fire IV

One of The Best RPG of The PS1 Era

Breath of Fire IV is a great RPG and I believe fan of the genre should at least give it a try. The music, story and gameplay is awesome. I'm quite happy that the PC version is now fixed and available on GOG, because there is a few things that I really like more than the PS1: - The 3D models and environment looks way nicer - The Text Font is quite easier to read - The Load Times are super fast - Some of the Zoom-in and Zoom-out effect feels more smoother, especially for Characters sprite in the distance However, there is also a few things that the PC version is doing a bit wrong: - Music is missing some kind of reverb, it feels a bit flat if you compared it to the PS1 OST - There is no Gamepad Button Prompts on screen, only Keyboard keys are displayed - The 2D assets have a weird smoothing filtering that you can't turn off The weird filtering on the 2D assets can be a bit annoying, but if you use something like Reshade and add the CRT-Royal shaders, everything will look a bit better and consistent. Although, I wish GOD would have added an option to disable this "2D assets smoothing filter" in the options. And speaking of Shaders, this is one thing I wish GOG would do for those 20 years old games, is to ship them with some optional CRT/Scanlines shaders that the user can use if they want to. Would be quite nice if some shaders would be included in the whole package, instead of using 3rd party tools like Reshade. Anyway, great game. :)
