Alternate DiMansion Diary

Playable with or without the hentai

Just finished the game, first as is without the patch and then patched. Essentially you play the entire game just fine, all the puzzles and jump scares and two possible endings based on a final decision. At that point you will have two of the medals and feel like something more should be there. This is where the patch comes in, it alters ending #2 to include a sex scene and starts the hentai portion of the game. From that point forward it is pretty linear as far as what to do with the exception of the last two medals not being as obvious without puzzle solving. The sex scenes are pixel graphics but well done for that, though they do go on for a WHILE at times. If you find yourself stuck, check all the rooms again and often something will have opened up to let you continue. Without the patch there is ZERO hentai so if you justwant a fun, short, puzzler to play this will still fit the bill.

The Zork Anthology

A shout out for Planetfall

I loved Infocom games, still do. I learned a lot from there parser and playing all the games on the old C-64 with a friend via phone was a blast and the earliest bit of co-op multiplayer I can think of. This is an awesome bunch of Zork games, but it also includes one of the space themed adventures that were my favorites. Planetfall chronicles the misadventures of a poor low level spaceship janitor who is in way over his head. It also introduces Floyd the robot and a level of pathos and investment not seen again until the Companion Cube on Portal. There was a sequel, Stationfall and another sci-fi game that rocked called Suspended, but this one is actually available so I highly recommend it to you.

Chaser

A long slog through generic FPS fare

So, if you read any reviews online you will hear about the poor story, twitchy AI, and clipping glitches. You may also hear how it sucks. If you are looking for a Half-Life, Deus Ex, or Call of Duty here you will be agreeing with them pretty quickly. However, if you just want an FPS experience that satisfies your desire to go places and shoot things this one is just fine. First, it is the second longest FPS I have ever played. Only the original Unreal was longer. I am serious, this is level after level of shooting stuff. They take you from space, to Earth, to Mars and your poor protagonist has to walk everywhere it seems. The graphics are on a par with the original Half-Life, the dialogue has a real European ESL feel to it with some odd translations choices and captions that don't match the audio, and the weapons are modeled on real world equipment. The physics are okay, stunted jump height and occasionally getting stuck on an edge notwithstanding. I did turn to an online guide at a few points, some of the critical pathing is not obvious and can leave you stuck in an empty room wondering where to go next. Still, it was a satisfying trip through old school shooter territory that satisfies the desire to shoot stuff and has enough story to explain why you are there. It ran fine on my Win7 Home Premium box, right from install, and it took my 1920x1080 widescreen settings just fine. Cutscenes at that resolution, however, are stretched so you lose the top and bottom of them. This may annoy if you want to see the on-screen text telling you where you are (you can hear it beeping but it is below the edge).
