It's a fun short game, centered around arena fights were you're forced to stay moving and juggle enemies. Doesn't quite have the polish of Doom Eternal though. Still disappointed that the franchise doesn't come into its own and instead keeps aping other games on each installment, but for what it is, I did enjoy it.
While not as emotional as the first game, the story on this game got me hooked and I finished it on just a few days, and I would recommend it to people who like reading sci-fi. Gameplay wise... it's not overly complicated or difficult, with tons of resources leftover on middle difficulty, but the time limited missions do add a real possibility of failure. I guess the simplistic mechanics do their job of adding stakes to the story. Overall, I quite liked the game.
It's not an ambitious or innovative game, but it does what it sets out to achieve. The story is fine, the combat is fine, exploration and ability unlocks are fine. Had a generally good time for the 15 or so hours it lasted, but I probably won't think much about it in the future. Main downside is the lack of direction, both for progression or secrets. Unless I missed it, there's no easy way to find the path to advance or where you missed some secret, so a couple times I got lost wondering where to go to continue (the game showed a door opening, I had no idea where) and the idea of going through the whole world on the endgame to try and find the last crew member or relic is... not good. An in-game map would probably help with this, but there's none. At least fast travel is convenient.
It looks like Theme/Two point hospital, it sounds like it, but it's not it. This is a very casual experience with a cute and funny paint, but with no bite at all. Seems like devs wanted this accessible, so they slashed staff (can only hire doctors), made research and training pointless, showered you with in game cash, added a random stuff vendor for some reason, removed all specialized diagnostic rooms... It's depressing how gutted the whole experience is. It's fine to make an easy experience inspired by theme hospital, but when the team that made War for the Overworld presents a Theme hospital lookalike and says on its description that they are "hungry to push that genre’s character and complexity forward", a simplified lookalike like this is absolutely not what I expect. At least have difficulty options or something. I'm giving it 3 stars because, objectively, it's not a bad game. It has some bugs on release, but I've seen them patch it up in real time, so I'm sure it will be better later on. The presentation is also very pretty, with lots of voicelines (it really repeats a lot once you enter sandbox, though, so I can see it becoming annoying really fast). It's probably an alright game to just switch your brain off and watch. There are also a few innovations, I do like: Consultants are a nice addition, having some diseases require multiple treatment rooms to cure had me excited for a bit, and being able to lock a doctor to a single room is arguably good but a nice option regardless. But I have no interest in playing further, and I'm quite angry at what I can only describe as false advertising. I would absolutely not recommend this to the older games' fans, unless they're the type of fans that got to level 3 on them and then gave up.
