Grim Dawn

A good game with bad coop

While I would love to give this game game 4 stars because it's one of the best Diablo-clones I've played, coop is just too broken. Why 4 stars and not 5? There are many things this game does well: Combining 2 base classes to create a new class is an interesing twist on classic skill trees, the world and the lore are very different and intriguing, gameplay is simple and fun but not too simple to be interesting and challenging at times. Why did I end up giving it 3 stars? With all that said, most of the environments/music/skills are nothing new. If you've played Diablo 2 (and a bunch of Diablo-Clones) a lot of it will feel familiar. Especially the music. But my biggest problem by far is the online-multiplayer. Despite the devs explicitly stating that crossplay between Steam and GoG shoud be possible after patch 1.1.0.0., are not able to play together, even after forwarding port, changing firewall-settings and so on. I was able to play with my boyfriend via LAN but even then the game kept crashing randomly. It's just frustrating.

Pathfinder: Kingmaker - Enhanced Plus Edition

A ton of fun but not for everyone

First off: For me personally this game is a 5/5 and already one of my favourite CRPGs ever. The graphics are nice and so is the soundtrack (reminded me a lot of Dragon Age: Origin). The story isn't anything new but it's good enough and while some of the companions are pretty clichéd, I liked them, mostly because the writing is really good, which is important since you need to read A LOT in this game (most dialogues don't have voiceover). So why only 4 stars? Because if you haven't played D&D or Pathfinder before and somewhat understand the mechanics, you're going to have a really rough start. This game has the potential to be very frustrating and one big reason is that it's not really good at explaining it's mechanics. While there are tutorial-messages throughout the game, they don't go into details and it's those details that can turn an otherwise manageable fight into a nightmare. To sum it up: A great CRPG if you know and like Pathfinder and if you don't, prepare for a steep learning curve and a lot of frustration.
