Pharaoh + Cleopatra

For the glory of the Pharaoh!

This is a great city building/management game. It's akin to the Anno-series and Emperor, pretty much in every way, except that it is set in Egypt - which is what truly sets it apart. Progression starts at basic buildings which no needs, and upgrade as you make new resources available through markets and bazaars, supplied from farms (be wary - some are seasonal, and require diligent farming each season lest your run out of its crop), mines, hunters, weavers and so on. But that's not it - be sure to throw a festival and give praise every now and then, or else you will feel the wrath of Set! Or Ptah or some other Egyptian deity. Such events can be major setbacks to what for many is the grand goal - the construction of your local monument! In my eyes by far the most entertaining aspect of this game, large of amounts of resources and manpower need be employed to build immense monuments, including sphinxes and giant pyramids. It is quite the effort. Day in and day out you will see the weary laborers struggle to pull the slabs of rock up increasingly tall constructions. Dreadful work. Luckily, you are the Pharaoh, Meaning you get to sip your cold drink while the workers toil to your glory. Just remember to order some fire stations built as well. You'll regret it otherwise.

Moto Racer

Childhood memories..

Seeing this game released gave me that good old fuzzy feeling you get when you see again a game you played so much as a child. It's a fun, simply put. It's not particularly advanced or bloated, nor does it need to. It's pure, entertaining racing fun through some great courses you'll play over and over - and love it.

Duke Nukem 3D Atomic Edition

Give 'em hell.

Simple, challening, fast-paced, splattering, groovy, alienblasting madness. Very, very entertaining. It's just awesome. Though some tweaking of the controls to suit modern styles is recommended. But that's easily accomplished through setup in game folder. ;) Still, a tiny bump in a surprisingly smooth experience. Easily recommended. LASTLY; this says it all: "A babe, a stogie, and a bottle of Jack. That's what I need right now." Duke mused on his recent defeat of the Rigelatins, his voice raspy even in histhoughts. After single-handedly saving Earth--again--he was ready for a long period of lying the hell down. "And no more freakin' aliens." Just then, a white-hot plasmatic blast punched through the hull of his cruiser. Klaxons flared, warning lights flashed, and static filled his monitors. He flipped on his comm. "Hey, anybody out there? I got a little probl..." Duke started. "Mayday! Mayday!" the radio replied. "Los Angeles is under attack! There are aliens everywhere, and they've mutated the LAPD. Is anyone there? We need help!--". The transmission went silent. "Great," Duke grumbled as his careening ship missed a skyscraper."What's the problem with all these aliens attacking Earth anyway? How many alien races have to get their asses kicked?" Duke slammed his fist into the waiting eject button. "I guess one more."

Empire Earth 3

gog.com?

I thought this store was reserved for the "good-old-games"? I bought this game when it first came out, being a big fan of the first Empire Earth.. and forced myself through a few hours - then left it alone forever. I cannot recommend this to anyone other than the die-hard fans of Empire Earth - and I can't honestly recommend it to even them, as it gets nowhere near the forever classic first game. Is this game simply here because gog.com has a deal with to publisher to publish? Well, okay then. Better call it "somewhat-old-games" then, instead, without the "good" bit. That'd be my 5 cents.

Constructor Classic 1997

Constructor

Probably the game I've been most looking forward to seeing on gog.com - it's simply the most entertaining building game ever. Prepare for tenants complaining though - they happen to do that every now and then. ;-)
