Pillars of Eternity: Definitive Edition

Great

Awesome game in the spirit of old school CRPG a la BG1/BG2. If you don't like that style of game, you will probably dislike this game. Check out PoE2 for a different experience, they are to me very different games.

Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire

Style over substance? Not sure.

After playing through BG1, BG2 and PoE1, I enjoyed them all so much. I found them to be a bit too easy at times, PoE1 I finished on Hard. I don't know what the problem is, but balancing in this game appears to be wonky. You'll see countless reviews about how this game is too easy, even on PotD. From what I gather, it becomes too easy after the initial part ... but I'm experiencing the exact opposite problem: the game is way too hard early on. I'm getting 1-shot by certain enemies, and like I said, I played through PoE 1 on hard. I'll be leaving this one on the shelf for a while, in hopes that it becomes a bit easier or balanced early on, as my tank should never be out of the game that fast. Basically, this game has changed a lot from PoE 1, and half the people seem to like this newfound "polish," but I find the polish has been over-emphasized and the game feels stale in a way I can't describe but am disappointed by nevertheless. I'm happy to buy this game though and don't regret it, as I want to see the genre keep growing. If you want an old school CRPG experience, PoE 1 is that game. If you want a new experience that seems to be growing with the times, try this one first. I guess I was looking for something more akin to old school genre.
