It is the good old DoW. What I like: - fixed fog problems for far camera - same Single Player playability - looks better! What I don't like: - Opening cinematic is so shaky it hurts to watch - For some reason there is no Multiplayer (I have that option greyed out) - pathfinding and unit overlapping is terrible - units can get blocked in impassable terrain. Relic should have added option to attack your own units. This was probably the 2nd worst bug (after fog rendering) in vanilla game and it's not fixed.
This game is a highest achievement in stealth games history - for me only Dishonored series tried the same, but these games are more universal and thus less stealth. T2 nicely follows the story that was left in Thief:DP outro. There is more technology, great story, less supernatural (again pagan superantural mission is the worst in the game, similarly to T:DP). Genuinely Looking Glass took what's best from T:DP and made it better. Not everything went well: you can feel the haste with mission before finale being placed there for no reason, but you can also truly feel how huge are the missions, how well designed, and how many different approaches you can try! Nowadays you should play with HD mod, as it makes the game graphics "bearable".
Imagein you are buying a wine. You really like semi-dry, so you buy one labelled very dry. But after opening it turns out that it's a lager beer! Same here: in theory it's stealth game, in theory it's Thief. But every level has some kind of crazy fly or die sequence (so not very stealth). And game is absolutely linear, hero even cannot jump! Also you cannot normally do any action, because everything neds to have animation. After seeing same gold picuk for the 1000 time or hearing same senstence from a guard 5th time in 10 minutes... Game is using nostalgia of old fans by reusing same place and character names, but treats as if previous games never happened, abusing the story and game world. And It's not as if it's not possible these days to make a good stealth immersive sim, where you can do what you like. Dishonored proved otherwise, being a better game than Thief 3.
Nice Addon, especially voice acting of companions. Finally they have some "interiors". Not much, but compared to BG1 it's a lot. Especially love Baeloth short dialogues (with Minsc) and his comments. Story-wise and Role Playing: level of Icewind Dale and ToB. It lacks freedom, but is more than enough to push the game forward, but it's just too small. BTW: Only crash I had was when I made Alt-Tab - game jsut couldn't return to it's normal state. So no crashes, because BG2 has sometimes same issues with Alt+Tab. Just Engine problem. "cdtweaks" mods work like charm. Problems: - Ending has plot holes - you are unable to use _important_ information you learned in both "meeting in woods", last meeting with the Hooded Man in the castle and final talks in the city (so no spoilers). - One companion is built during the game to trust, and finally he/she in fact betrays you - Normal Price is a joke for that short game with that obsolete graphics.
