DOOM 3

Exactly what I wanted DOOM3 to be

This updated version of DOOM3 is one of the most value-packed titles I've ever seen from Bethesda, and it hits all the right spots by being raw fun. This title contains 3 "episodes" or level-sets: the base DOOM3 campaign, Resurrection of Evil, and The Lost Mission. Overall it's many hours of play, and the Nightmare difficulty is unlocked independently for each episode, which adds to the replay value (trust me, to take on Nightmare, that practice is vital). If you're a DOOM3 veteran (or don't mind can tenuously be called here "spoilers"), you may want to try playing all the episodes in reverse; starting with The Lost Mission (which is the fastest, most action-oriented of the chapters), followed by Resurrection of Evil and then DOOM3. There are quite a few secrets hidden around, and there was an emphasis on more run-and-gun gameplay rather than the slower, more ambient vibe of the original DOOM 3. Curiously, while assets are re-used between the three episodes, there is a lot left exclusively to DOOM3 (which is still the longest episode) which lets it keep its title as a solid experience in its own right. The older DOOM games that are included as well (DOOM 1 and 2) run great and scale up very nicely on modern display devices, and are quite a nice bonus! There are a few graphics abnormalities, and the graphics settings themselves aren't as flexible as I'd normally like, but the game looks and runs great on most modern rigs so there's nothing for me to complain about. Some tips to enhance your experience... * To enter Windowed Mode, you must press ALT + Enter; there is no option to do this in the menu. * For a performance boost, disable Flashlight Shadows in the Gameplay settings menu * FOV 80 is cramped, but might allow for better accuracy due to weapon/HUD offset. Props to Kalandir's review for the CFG tips, if you want to poke around under the hood of the game and enable the Console once more!
