Actually very exciting, if you abstract from the fact that this game absolutely not connected with the previous parts - we get a wonderful and fascinating journey. The plot is captivating, the battles are exciting, the AI is complex, it is really interesting to be in this world. Highly recommend.
Review based on 100+ hours of play. Being a big fan of the "Sunless sea", I couldn’t pass it up. Well, the game has made a big step towards the user and now the gaming experience is much more balanced, one might say gentle (in comparison of course with SS). It’s still nice to follow the narrative of the story, of course, if you choose the main plot point - “the truth”. (The remaining two objectives are not particularly interesting and may serve as a general immersion into the lore for new players) The overall design is beyond praise, a huge leap in quality. Now it feels and plays like a full-fledged game, and not like a product from browsers. It's about the good. And now the fly in the ointment: And everything would be great if not the desire of the authors to emphasize the non-binary agenda as much as possible. It’s terrible. Honestly. The whole so carefully constructed image of the Victorian era is shattered by they/it, and all pseudo-positive characters are necessarily non-binary individuals with a bias toward the female gender and corresponding character. And so on and so forth. If you are trying to create something authentic, then be kind enough to remain within the framework of this authenticity, and leave all this nonbinary shenanigans for Netflix. And this is quite critical, the whole image of the narrative collapses. Unfortunately, I cannot rate it positively and cannot recommend it to the average user.
Review based on 50+ hours of play, got all endings. My opinion - it is The best representation of the indie horror genre, despite the top-down view the storytelling is amazing in richness and atmosphere. And the narration in its depth can easily compete with AAA projects. The gameplay is strict, with an abundance of mechanics, crafting and survival. With a huge pinch of viscous, atmospheric horror, as if dark souls met with silent hill and amnesia. Perfect entertainment for a few dark evenings, highly recommended.
Ok, this will be my first review here. The abundance of mixed reviews prompted me to write my own. After 60+ hours, I feel like I'm able to formulate an opinion: This game is definitely not for everyone, do not expect clean, polished and balanced gameplay, that's not what the game is about But it is about the poetry of old board games, text quests if you like, dressed in a graphical shell. And as soon as this understanding comes, the game changes! This is a truly unique phenomenon, extremely complex, hardcore by the standards of modern gaming - yes, but immensely fascinating with its deep setting and thoughtful narrative. And it is the pleasure of the great narrative piece that forms this cozy and unique aura. Can you recommend it to the general public? Definitely not. But if you are a connoisseur of good text adventures, board games and old style quest games, then Sunless sea will bring you a lot of the most vivid impressions. A unique experience overall.
