I'm gonna start with the bad. This is a game based off code and game design from the mid 90s. There's some things that are obtuse as hell to understand and get right, yet once you get it, you get it. I've been playing this for years and I still don't fully understand signals. However, this is one of the most detailed "tycoon" games ever made. The original TTD created the main mechanics that OTTD then built off of, and what has been added to the core game is far more than what is offered in similar games from its time like Railroad Tycoon or even Chris Sawyer's very own followups, Rollercoaster Tycoon and Locomotion. Not to say that RCT is by any means an inferior game, but compared to OTTD, RCT is much simpler to understand. Besides the point, OpenTTD is an excellent game that if you aren't careful will cause you to succumb to Civilization Syndrome and continue redesigning railroad systems well beyond the sunset and eventual sunrise.
