First of all, this 2/5 score is exclusively aimed at the quality of this specific release. The game itself is an easy 5/5 and one of my favourite games ever, though I don't think there are many people left who are still on the fence about whether RE1 is a good game or not. So, I've completed a full run with Chris today, and in that time I noticed: - TERRIBLE music quality, the files are so compressed you can hear a *lot* of white noise in the background whenever music is playing. - Framerate issues...not framerate drops, for once; but the game will randomly accelerate for a bit, and while I'm certainly not opposed to 60FPS, the inconsistent framerate is a bit off-putting. It mostly occured in the big lab room with the naked zombies, and didn't occur much in the rest of the game. It was only a few seconds at most so I'd definitely consider this a minor problem at most, but it's there. - Even with graphical options in the directX executable turned on, there's basically no difference and the game remains noticeably uglier than the Mediakite release with Classic REbirth. - Not exactly a problem, but there's a bit of a missed opportunity with the backgrounds. The main thing I was really hoping for from a new RE1 release was rerendered backgrounds so we could finally have them in their full glory rather than having to pick between pixel soup and overly smoothed AI visuals, but perhaps Capcom simply lost the 3D scenes a long time ago. Not really a fault from this release but a shame nonetheless in any case. It also kind of tracks with the very barebones nature of this release. As it stands, this is entirely inferior to the patched Mediakite release, which I already owned. I still bought the bundle because I didn't own RE3 on PC, and to show support for classic RE rereleases on PC, but this just doesn't cut it for me. Really hoping there will be updates to make this worth it because as it is, I don't gain anything from purchasing this, as I suspect many other people do.
