I've been addicted to this game for a few weeks, and just recently completed my first run. It has great writing for the story and dialogue, while also being as faithful as possible to 40k's lore. I enjoyed the gameplay, and it offers good replayability with various origins and choices you make throughout the game. The music and sound design fit perfectly with the setting, and voice acting was superb when it was present. However, there are some bugs that, while not gamebreaking, did cause me confusion. Sometimes the game would think I made an alliance with someone, who I previosly killed. One of the companions broke up with me when I had only recently recruited them, so there's no way I could have started their romance. One of the combat abilities, Molten Beam, will randomly decide to not work. Also, achievements stopped working relatively early on in the story. Hopefully these issues get fixed later on, especially with the next DLCs releasing next year. I'll definitely be replaying this in the future.
I purchased this game at a heavy discount, and went in knowing that the average play time was 4-5 hours. However, this little game was able to grab my full attention and evoke emotions despite its short time. It is a gradual climb to paranoia that had me looking over my shoulder, and questioning everything I previously trusted. The pacing and strategy the developers used to tell this story was worthy of a movie. Aside from that, this game had great visuals, sound, and music. The VA's also really sold it with their performances as well. All in all, I am happy with my purchase.
This is a stellar little game that really nails its story, simple but artisctic visuals, gameplay, immersive details (how the boat will pitch and list with the waves), sound design, and light Lovecraftian horror elements. I've been binging this game for a few days now, which suprised me as I don't usually play smaller games like these. I also haven't experienced any bugs/glitches, or any other technical issues. Solid game.
So far, I've had a blast playing. I feel immersed in the horrific and deadly world of The Zone. I meet the recommended settings to play on High, but I've lowered the preset to Medium. I still get an occasional drop in FPS or stutter however. Hopefully, a patch that fixes this game's performance will be released in the near future. Once performance gets fixed, I think this game will be worth 5 stars.
I previously owned/played this game on Steam, but I didn't have the DLCs. GOG was offering the Royal Edition for a steal of a price, so I got it. Now I get to enjoy the complete experience. This is a fantastic historical fiction game that works hard to keep you immersed. It can also be hilarious at times, in a similar sense to The Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion. If you are a fan of medieval settings or history, this is a must buy.
