Solasta is a game that has potential. It could have been a good game but there are so many cons that make it impossible to give it a good review. Graphics are dated, it looks rather like a game from 2008 than a game published in 2021. But this could be overlooked for an oldschool style RPG. However there are so many other problems: The interface feels clunky, outdated and its ugly. It looks more like the interface of a game in an early alpha stage. The crafting system is awkward and in no way intuitive. Combat is very random and especially random encounters can be deadly for your party with monsters that are too powerful for your party. As there is no real autosave function, you could easily lose an hour of gameplay when you get stuck in a random encounter when traveling. On the positive side is the fact that the game uses D&D 5.0 rules -- so after the disappointment with Baldurs Gate III Solasta could have been a gem for D&D enthusiasts. The story is generic but ok, but it railroads the party through the game. You simply go from point A to B back to A and then C and so on. Voiceacting is ok but do not expect any surprises. All in all the game is not worth it, at least not with the current pricetag. If you want it, wait for a sale.
The game is horribly overrated in my opinion. It has much potential but it fails to deliver what was announced. The game presents itself as a GTA-clone in first person perspective. There is nothing wrong with that, however for a game that was announced nearly a decade ago and hyped since then it is pretty weak. Basically in its current state it is a buggy mess. The AI is almost nonexistent, you can trick it very easily. There is no vehicle AI, so there are no police chases like you would expect from GTA-style games. Sometimes vehicles simply despawn in the middle of the road. Combat is boring, it does not really make a difference which weapon you use. In many cases melee is the most reliable way to get rid of enemies. The voice acting is pretty solid. The main story is ok but very short and the side missions are often just "get there, kill somebody, deliver something"-stuff which is very repetitive. I have played through the game in less than 20 hours and it left me disappointed. Keanu Reeves is not enough to make a good game...
it is a wonky early access game that currently crashes every 10-15 minutes. What is expected from an early access. Is it worth the money? 60 Bucks for a game that crashes and were you have to play testers? No, not at its current state. Perhaps it will get better. Anyway it is a shame that it is called Baldur's Gate because it has nothing to do with its predecessors apart from the name. The majority of the people reviewing here are just hiped by the name of the game despite it is wonky and buggy.
Would it be 2004 or 2005 I'd say the game is worth it. But 2015 you should expect more. Almost no movie cut scenes, instead looooong text passages. But compared to text heavy games like Planescape Torment, it lacks a page turning story. The graphics are good but you should expect more in 2015. There is no multiplayer option which is a shame as I recently played all the original Baldur's Gate stories together with a friend and I was really looking forward to try this. All in all the game might not be that bad if you are a die hard fan of the Baldur's Gate series. It would be ok if its price was below 20 maybe 25 bucks. But for twice the price it is overpriced for what you get.
