I liked the first game, Alwa's Awakening, better, so if you are curious I recommend playing that one first. This sequel isn't bad at all, it just isn't as carefully crafted as the first one, and that's understandable since the scope is much larger. Again, play the first one and if you like it the this is an expansion to that.
I had never played a Computer RPG before, and after finishing this game i think this is the perfect entry point for noobs like me. While this series in general is a good entry point, this particular entry is sometimes criticized for streamlining a little too much, since you only get to personalize and upgrade your main character, any other character that you use is just a recurring one or one that you contract for a mission, but you can't upgrade them or change them. Still, for a complete noob like me this game was very good, i got the chance to understand the different systems and mechanics of the series, and now i'm excited to move to Dragonfall so i can use multiple characters. The story is also very competent and engaging, at first it was a little slow but after a while it grabs your attention and motivates you to finish the game. If you know nothing about CRPG's but are somewhat interested, this is a good place to start. Otherwise, you can check out the sequel Dragonfall or another series.
I've played a few Amanita Design games so i'm pretty happy that they decided to remaster this game instead of letting it get lost due to the death of Flash. It looks as good as Samorost 2, but it is so simple that it took me 10 minutes to beat it. Hopefully, this might get people interested into the other games by this studio, they are totally worth your time.
The fact that this was originally released for the Nintendo DS is what caught my attention, and the game and port didn't disappoint me. This is a little fun platformer with exploration and backtrackind, and while relatively short i feel the package delivers quite well. On the negative aspects i would say the map is completely useless and navigating the initial area confusing, probably a compromise of the original hardware. But the game never became so complex that i got lost or needed a map anyway, its a well rounded experience, altough some have pointed out that the game feel a little lacking, because originally it was going to be released in parts on the DSi store, and probably something got cut off. In general this is a very fun game that i've played a few times, altough The Pirate's Curse is the better regarded game this one is also worth checking out. You can always wait for a discount if you are interested, you probably won't be disappointed.
I don't mean to disrepect a game that just by looking at it, it becomes obvious how much of an impact this has had on gaming, but this is an experience that i cannot recommend to newcomers like me playing for the first time today. This isn't just me depreciating the game because its old, i wouldn't be on GOG if i wasn't interested in "old" games, is just that Another World really doesn't offer much in exchange for what it ask for players today. Yes, the atmosphere, the music and the graphics (the retro ones) are great, and i must mention that this port is pretty competent. But on the downside the responsiveness of the control is not on par with the challenge, resulting in more frustation than its worth it. I understand that its been 30 years (1991) since the original release, and for its time what they did is commendable, but playing it today guarantees frustation. If this is a more modern version they should have done something with the way this plays to resolve this issue, there is an "easy" mode but it didn't change nothing, maybe the game would be even shorter with less dead but at least it would be welcoming to newcomers. Over the years i've heard about this game's legacy and that's why i decided to play it, but there is just no reason to play this game when Limbo and Inside exist. No disrespect to the people that grew up with this, but if you ar a newcomer like me just trust me and watch the playtrough online. Trust me.
I got this game for free in one of the giveaways of GOG, and after reading most of the reviews here i decided to finish the game to see why were there so many negative ones. While i rate this game higher than the other reviews here (3.5/5), i have to say that their criticism is completely valid, and while i enjoyed and had a fun time with the game i can't fully recommend it without warning that the negative aspects are real and should be considered when buying the game, i suggest you watch some of the video reviews and gameplay that exists of this game before deciding. Playing this game gave me solid fun, and at the end i was both pleasantly and unpleasantly surprised. Pleasantly because of the different transformations and how fun it was to use most of them to move; because of the quantity and variety of content available; because of the graphics, art style and music which were charming. Unpleasantly because at the end of the day it has a significant amount of shortcomings which make this game feel both still in development and amateurish in design. There can be some errors in the hit detection of the floor and walls, specially with some specific transformations and in specific circumstances, i have been teleported in some occasions, and in general sometimes it can feel like its not adequate enough for the kind of challenge that the player is put up to. The biggest issue however is the design itself of the game, level design, game mechanics and the progression. I feel the punishment for getting hit an enemy is too great in terms of the currency, just a few seconds and you can lose it all, there are very few invincibility frames and sometimes its hard to hit your enemies, there was a general disorientation as to where to go after the first boss, most players don't pass the first hour of the game. I liked this game, the achievements show the ambition and effort put in by the team that made this game, but it needs more polish for me to play more times.
This is a little free roaming 3D platforming where the main objective is to reach the top of the mountain to recieve a call, something you can acomplish in an hour or so, i've seen world records around 3 minutes. But there is still a full island of diferent activities to enjoy all of them pretty chill: fish, dig, race, swim, boat, fly and more. There are many different side quests that uses and improves this activities, but for my the proof that all of this is fun and well implemented is the fact that i didn't have the need or desire to look up any of this online, it all came to be naturally as i played the game. After exactly 7 hours i have finally finished all the actvities, so i think i'll put the game down for a while and start it over in the future when i feel like it. My only two complains in this game that easely became one of my favorites are this: the camera, and a lack of map. The camera is semi-fixed, and many times you will wish you were able to move it to a better position; the camera also messes with you a bit when entering certain areas from certain positions. In the case of the map, i really wish there was one to better know where it is that you want to go. I get that maybe the developer didn't want it in for whatever reason, but i think that as an unlockable it would be nice. The island is not big enough not to get lost, but it would still be a QOL improvement. This game is great, don't doubt it, that's why there are so many reviews and most of them are five stars. If you happen to read this be sure that this game is worth your time.
This arcade game was an overall fun experience, although nothing to write home about. An isometric beat'emup (i think) where you can take control of 3 good characters, and Bard. You have only one attack button, and once your magic meter is filled by killing enemies you can press the magic button to use a magic spell: you can turn into a Medusa head, a tornado, a steel ball, a rock and more. The game is full of enemies and projectiles because its original intention was to suck as many pennies of players as possible, this re-release like many other arcade ports have unlimited credits so the constant death is just a bothersome inconvenience. In terms of performance, i don't know how well it emulates the original experience but there weren't any slowdowns in game, the different display options are serviceable, and i could play with a controller just fine. I couldn't test it in coop though so i wouldn't know. I think this game is for the people that played it as a kid, arcade enthusiast and people that like the fantasy setting. For its low price i think its worth giving it a shot, i think a might play it a few more times.
