Pool of Radiance

A complete classic

Pool of Radiance is where one of the greatest game series of all time began. And, arguably, where it peaked. This game introduced us to the Gold Box series and Phlan, with a classic adventuring story of clearing a town of horrible monsters. By having level 1 gameplay, Pool provides a great challenge but also a great growth curve. Just wait until your magic-users get their first magic missile and you'll feel incredibly powerful. The lack of a fix command is lamented by some, but having to think about resting and healing adds another tactical level to the game. The story is great, the tactics are great, and the battle system is still an amazing example of the power of turn-based combat. Get your Adventurer's Journal, grab some graph paper and enjoy one of th best.

Pirates!

One of my favourites of all time

Put the nostalgia goggles on because I still love Pirates! many many years after I first played it. While it could be categorised as a series of minigames (and not even that many) the presentation and vibes tie them all together into a strategy masterpiece. I could sail the seas for hours with naught but the ambient sound and the occasional "Sail Ho!" to guide my way, chasing down evil villains who know about my lost family and of course - searching for treasure!

Hillsfar

A hidden gem

While it's more arcadey gameplay may not mesh well with the rest of the Gold Box series, Hillsfar presents AD&D in a unique way, incorporating horse riding, target shooting, lock picking and thievery. While the game could use more story and hints to help you along, it's a short burst of AD&D goodness in a more in-depth mode than the other GB flock.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

Give me Deus Ex

I love the Deus Ex series, and Human Revolution and Mankind Divided both carry the series on well. Hoping we see a sequel to this down the line.

Champions of Krynn

A great spin-off

Is it a spin-off? Kind of, spun off of the Forgotten Realms Gold Box games. Either way, the storytelling and graphical flourishes make this game great fun, and having different classes and races available make it stand out from games like Pool of Radiance.

Curse of the Azure Bonds

One of my favourites

Could never beat this as a kid but finally made it. A great sequel to Pool of Radiance and starting at level 4/5 really helps you get into the fun combat abilities quickly. A compelling storyline on top of the gameplay is the icing on the cake.

Cyberpunk 2077

Love it

Only wish there were more of it, will definitely be getting Phantom Liberty.
