Back in 2001 I got my first computer at age 50. I was looking at pc games and saw Myst - no dying or running amok shooting everything, just exploring - cool, I thought. I loved it. Only thing I had trouble with was in the spaceship setting the sliders to the notes. Well I was hooked on pc gaming! Went on to play the rest of the series and other great games - Syberia series, Longest Journey, Schizm 1 & 2, etc. The only games outside of adventure games I tryed and liked were Tomb Raider Legend, Underworld & anouther that came out about that time. But Myst is the game that got me started. Thanks Cyan Worlds! I've bought all of their games except their first ones for kids. I keep Uru on my computer and go back to replay it regularly.
Die hard Myst fan. Have played all the Myst games as they came out, but this one didn't have the spark the others had. I liked the game a lot, just didn't meet the standards of the others. A lot of really nice graphics but just didn't pull me in like the others. Would buy again.
Having played and totally loved Syberia I & II, when I saw Syberia III on sale for $19.99, I had to buy it. Didn't buy before because of DRM at other places, love GOG for the lack of DRM. The graphics were vastly improved. As others have said, lip synching was poor, could be because of it being translated from French. Story was ok, puzzles acceptable. I really miss Oscar, but knew he was gone. He played a great part in the first two. Would buy again for the sale price or would wait for the price to drop, but would buy again. Really good real adventure games rare these days. Except for Syberia III and Obduction, there hasn't been a very good/excellent true adventure game in years. So compared to the other "adventure" games as of late Syberia III is great.
Syberia 1 & 2 are one of my favorite pc games of all time. The story is very good, as is the graphics. Being a mechanical engineer, loved all the automatons. Loved the clockwork train that zips along as well as any other train. Very few really good adventure games anymore. Which is unfortunate. I can't get into run amok, shoot em up games (pacifist). I've played all the Myst games, The Longest Journey series and all the other top rated adventure games and would put Syberia 1 & 2 in the top 5. Original Longest Journey has a better story. Exile was just great, as was Uru. Was a real treat to get this game again, especially for free. Original one was long gone to who knows where. For any true adventure gamer, this game has to be in their library!
Just saw this game finally was for sale here on GOG. Played it about 10 years ago. Had the cd version and the graphics were amazing. Heard the dvd version looked a lot better and had more puzzles, not sure if it's longer. Asked support which version is being sold and was told it's the dvd version. Definitely buying it again. Don't remember what happened to the copy I had and wanting to see how much more beautiful it will look.
Have been a fan of Cyan since Myst. Liked Uru the best because of the vast exploration. spent months playing it. Loved Revelations for its graphics. Loved Riven and Exile for their stories. Myst, the first one I played for being over and above the best game for its time, out classed anything up to its time. Obduction has the best graphics by far, story is pretty darn good. A lot more running around than the others, but so far has been fine with me. Not really that far into it. I love adventure games the best because of the exploring. Obduction has amazing graphics which is really a plus in the exploring part. Am having troubles with the puzzle parts but it's just me (66 years old and senile?). Will finish it eventually, with excellent adventure games as rare as they are these days, I have plenty of time to spend on it before anything as excellent (or close) comes out.
Uru is one of the games I keep on my computer. It's a huge game with so many places to explore and see. Originally took over a month, maybe a couple months to complete. I've always been the adventurous type. Spent over a decade backpacking and mountain biking the Sierra Nevada. Weeks into the game found out about Yeesha pages that adds all kinds of things to your home base. Had to go back and reexplore places I'd been. There's so much to find and do i 'm still not sure I've accomplished everything. Sure a few puzzles were tough, but that's what makes it good. Don't want a game you just cruise through with no thinking involved.
