Soldier of Fortune: Platinum Edition

Does not run

Could not get the game to run on Windows 10 20H2. Sofplus patch didn't help. The SoF process is jsut chilling idly in the memory, doing nothing.

War for the Overworld

A True Sequel

Yes, this is practically Dungeon Keeper 3 under a different title. It is very faithful to its roots, while not shying away from innovation. It feels both fresh and familiar. It may not blow your mind necessarily if you're not a fan of Dungeon Keeper series, but if you've been waiting all these years for a continuation - this IS it!

Cyberia 2: Resurrection

Trust the negative reviews

This is a badly designed on-rails shooting and a badly designed adventure puzzler with very, very poor checkpoint placement. I'm quite fond of the first game, but in this case neither nostalgia nor few pros it has outweighs the cons. The game works perfectly, but has aged so ungraciously...

Rage of Mages II: Necromancer

A nice genre mix for a fantasy nostalgia

A RTS/RPG hybrid. Has an average story, optional side missions, a rather run-of-the-mill fantasy world and a pretty brutal difficulty. Binding abilities to quick-use keys is mandatory to even beat the single-player campaign, which can be pretty micro-heavy from the get-go for people with not a lot of RTS experience. As common among russian titles, expect a lot of loading saved games and sometimes even restarting or dropping missions altogether. There's also a multiplayer mode with PVE emphasis, which apparently still works, and is even more micro-heavy, expect to chug 5 healing potions each second during some battles. There are only 2 classes - Fighter and Mage, they are very different, and Mage is considered to be the stronger one, albeit requiring more skill to play.

X-Com: Interceptor

Not as bad as you might think

Yes, it's very different from the others. Yes, it has no squad-based tactical combat at all. But it has an arcade flight sim instead, and not a terrible one. All other X-COM staples like base-building, research, inventory management, UFO interception, etc. ARE there. I've beaten it multiple times, and can assure you - it's only bad if you directly compare it to it's predecessors. In it's own right it is a pretty decent game.

Vampire®: The Masquerade - Bloodlines™

It transcends it's flaws

This game is so good that it's good even despite it's flawed, buggy and unfinished state. Just don't forget to install the latest Unofficial Patch. In essence this is a linear pseudo-open world RPG in World Of Darkness setting. Great characters, fantastic atmosphere, great soundtrack. and it's by Troika. Must try for any RPG fan. And don't forget the Unofficial patch!

Evil Islands

The weirdest greatness

This is a stealth/action/RPG with "russian" gameplay formula - lots of savescumming to get through difficult areas. Nevertheless, it's quite an original game with decent SP campaign and MP support. It has nice crafting system, weird but engaging magic system and weird AS HELL character development sysytem - read about it beforehand to avoid spoiling precious exp points. Also, note playing WITHOUT companions is EASIER, since you do not have to share experience with them, and companions leave you at the end of each act. It's also bloody hard and has a great emphasis on stealth.

X-Com: Apocalypse

Very, very good

This game is hated by a lot of series fans. In my opinion it's the best, the most complex game. Yes, it veers away from some established conventions, but it adds so much! If you're into this kind of stuff, you have to try this. It's also one of the X-COM(and XCOM) games in which starting items ARE useful, almost all of them.

Uprising: Join or Die

Too crash-prone to be enjoyable

While the game surely delivers that nostalgic tear, and is actually an interesting genre, for me it was nearly impossible to play due to constant crashing. enemy tanks spawned in on tutorial mission? Crash. Pressing "Esc" for menu? Crash. Calling in new Citadel? Crash. Crash. Crash. As suggested on first launch, I closed all background apps except for the antivirus, and it still crashed all the time. Some reviews already stated that Battlezone is better. For me the alternative is Urban Assault, but sadly it is nearly impossible to buy legitimately.

Ziggurat

Quite decent, but has flaws

It's a fast-paced roguelite FPS. Random-generated levels, permadeath, character progression, quite a bit of different weapons, perks and, surprisingly, a plethora of characters to choose from. You will, however, have to unlock all this through gameplay and meeting certain boring conditions like "kill 200 goblins" to unlock characters. It takes around 2 hours to beat, but its value is in replaying. That said, the game is somewhat let down by a noticeable lack of variety in level design. All rooms and all levels are different, but look the same to me. It does not really detract from the action, but it does impact my personal enjoyment. On the other hand, enemy variety is pretty decent. Not a bad buy, if you ask me, but not for everyone.
