System Shock Demo

Could be better

The first Alpha demo they released for this remake was fantastic. It felt good overall, had no complaints about it. This updated demo that has come out, on the other hand, feels different. I don't really know how to explain it cuz it's hard to put my finger on what they may have changed but now it just feels a bit...clunky? Like the controls feel fine, they work great, they do what they're designed to do, but getting into combat just feels weird now, I don't know what it is. In the first demo the combat took some getting used to, but felt fine once you did, but now, it somehow doesn't, maybe I'm just crazy. Also, I hope they decide to give the option to use the original audio logs instead of the re-recorded ones. The original voice acting/logs they had in the first demo seemed to fit so much better in the game. Furthermore, the game is just waaaaaay too dark with lighting that's sometimes just waaaay too bright. Hopefully they fix that and implement a gamma slider or something, cuz the game honestly really hurts to look at with how it's so hard to make things out. This is an otherwise very well done remake and I'm excited to play the full game, but I do hope they fix the lighting/darkness issue.

XIII - Remake

Terrible Remake

This is a terrible remake of a great game. It feels like as if the developers rushed this game out for no real good reason. This baby needs to go back into the oven! It has a terrible intro where some random FBI agent watches a film of the intro. Why? I believe only Satan can answer that question because it's clear he smeared his ball grease all over the decision making process of the dev team. The controls of the game feel fine, except the aiming. The sensitivity settings are all kinds of jank. If you lower the sensitivy so your hipfire option is smoother, it GREATLY reduces the aim down sights sensitivity to a sluggish mess which exponentially hinders the sniping sections. Why don't they have a separate sensitivy slider for aim down sights? Or better yet, how did they f*ck that up? Not to mention the sound glitches out a lot, not that that matters much since a lot of the sounds don't feel very impactful whatsoever, especially when you fire your guns. The AI in this remake range from braindead to omniscient super soldiers. Try sneaking up behind someone and before you can get the take down prompt, they are already turning around to blast you full of holes. Though, to be fair, I did notice this a bit in the original as well, but not to any real frustrating degree. The only saving grace that came with this purchase was that it came with a copy of the original XIII game. Play that instead. While it's 17 years old, it is still vastly superior than this heaping pile of underdeveloped baby batter. Hopefully the devs patch these issues immediately, cuz as it stands now, this XIII Remake is not worth throwing money at.
