I own the Gloomhaven boardgame and enjoy it a fair bit. When this version was released, I was excited that I'd now be able to play the game with my friends around the world. I got the game in late December, 2021, and it worked well enough (though there are issues with the UI, and a few other problems; 8urnsky's review matches my experiences, though I'm less critical about the problems and would rate the game between 3-4 stars if not for the online issue). However, some recent patches have now removed the ability to play online if you do not have Galaxy installed. I don't use Galaxy for the same reasons many other people don't and, if Gloomhaven's store page had said it required Galaxy to play online, I would not have bought the game. As of October 8, 2022, the store page still does not say that Galaxy is required to play the game online. I am extremely frustrated that the game I purchased can no longer be used online: playing online was the only reason I bought it! This review is intended to be a warning for others who don't use Galaxy -- if you want to play the game online, you can't -- and as a plea to the developers to either fix this issue or return my money. I already own the boardgame; if this game doesn't have online play, I don't need it.
