Chained Echoes

A modern classic!

Such an amazing JRPG! Loved it! Played it 100% on SteamDeck. (+) Runs flawlessly on SteamDeck (+) Absolutely bonkers story and I'm here for it! (+) Very interesting and engaging combat system (+) TONS of secrets and unlockables (+) I enjoyed the writing. I heard a lot of bad things regarding it but I didn't really found it to be bad. I actually laughed out loud sometimes. (+) Stellar pacing. Things always keep moving and the length of the game felt just right. (+) Tons of Easter eggs and references. (0) The soundtrack was good but didn't really stick with me. (0) There isn't much customization in terms of builds for the party but it works alright considering the gameplay structure. (0) Gorgeous artwork and visuals but for some reason I couldn't gel with it. I know it's a me thing tho. (-) Sky armors battles are interesting but I ended up not enjoy it at all (-) Crystal mechanics are bad. At least I could ignore it for the most part. (-) I felt the beginning of the game was harder and then it became a cakewalk - played on normal tho. (-) The optional characters contribute so little to the story that it made me sad. Tomke is great and deserved more spotlight. (-) Not all characters and stories work. Not a detriment overall but some sections bored me.

Pepper Grinder

Great but short 2d platformer

2D platformer that focuses on movement. I enjoyed my time with it. Played 100% of it on Steam Deck. (+) Runs great on Steam Deck. (+) I liked the artstyle and soundtrack, not really memorable, but enjoyable (+) Movement is GREAT. Drilling and zipping through the stages was amazing and each world introduced a "different" mechanic. (+) Great boss battles (-) The mechanic of the last world was not good. Felt kinda clunky to control. (-) Really really short game, wish it was longer.

En Garde!

Great little action game

Great swashbuckilng action game! (+) Loved the artstyle. The graphics are really enjoyable to look at. (+) Funny little story, characters and writing. (+) Great and simple combat! (+) New mechanics are introduced at a great pace. (0) Short. Wish it was a bit longer but at the same time it was well paced.

The Gunk

Short and fun adventure

A quick and fun action adventure. (+) played on SD and it ran great. Some areas the fps went to single digits tho. (+) quick and short game (+) the game is gorgeous (+) the interactions between the characters are entertaining (0) Gameplay is serviceable. There is some combat but it's very bare bones. The focus is in platforming and it works OK for it. (-) some bugs that made me restart the area but nothing really game breaking

Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom

Great Collect-a-Thon Platforme

An innovative Collect-a-Thon Platformer, with a lot of gags and humour. Enjoyed it a lot and I highly recommend it. (+) I usually do not like Collect-a-Thons but this one was great from start to finish. (+) The movement, oh my... the controls and movement are incredible here. You do not get extra skills or abilities, you just learn how to utilize what you have from the start. Top notch! (+) So many gags and jokes. I quite liked most of them! (+) Graphics are low poly and awesome. (+) Quite lenghty if going for 100% (which I didn't). (+) Very cheap for how amazing the game is. (0) Sound and music were nothing special. (-) Performance on Steam Deck was quite choppy. Sometimes it ran great (60fps) and others were quite troublesome.

Berserk Boy

A fun megaman like

A quick and enjoyable Megaman clone that's erroneously labeled as metroidvania! Played it 100% on steam deck and it ran great. (+) the graphics are great and all, but the illustrations are GORGEOUS. (+) Good sound effects and soundtrack (not outstanding or anything, I just liked it) (+) Great gameplay - it's a megaman x game with another coat of paint (+) "Fast travel" in the stages are quite helpful (0) Good length. Not short but not overly long (0) controls were mostly ok, with some annoying stuff as the wall grab (-) The balance between the powers is kinda wacky. The first transformation is all you need to clear the game, except those obvious situations where you are forced to use other transformation (-) Everything about the base (main hub) is bad. The parts where you have to fight enemies there are the worst. But at least there is a fast travel. (-) most upgrades were kind pointless. The HP and the Energy ones, as well as the double spring (for the first transformation) are all you need. (-) no cloud saves or achievements on GOG

Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom

Amazing metroidvania. Play it!

This metroidvania surprised me! Played it on steam deck and ran flawlessly. I might go for the 100% someday, but so far this was a great game with so many positives. (+) Love the artstyle. Feels like playing a cartoon. (+) Tons of secrets and collectables (+) Controls are very responsive (minus the underwater sections) (+) Doesn't hold your hand! There were a few times where I felt completely lost and had to check a guide, but it never felt unfair or not explained. I was the one not paying attention! I really need to highlight this as it's been a while since a game left me with this feeling. That was really enjoyable. (+) So many cool references and Easter eggs (+) exploration and character progress were top notch. Loved the different effects of gear, either for combat and exploration (+) movement and platforming were awesome. Felt very "gamey"! (+) so many options due to the transformations (+) good writing for the characters, I enjoyed most of them (0) good but not memorable music (0) bosses were fun but very easy (-) as helpful as the map was, it didn't really click for me (-) Very generic story (-) the beginning of the game is terrible, it really only "clicked" for me after getting the 3rd transformation (-) backtracking and fast travel were like a chore, did not enjoy this part (-) combat was far from exciting or interesting (in direct contrast to platforming and exploration)

Blast Brigade vs. the Evil Legion of Dr. Cread

Underrated metroidvania

Pleasantly surprised by this game. Really polished metroidvania! It's quite hard but not punishing and does not use any kind of soulslike aspect to put this difficulty in place. The enemies are kinda spongy (constantly felt that the enemies took way too much hit before falling) and the fast-travel is somewhat restricting (the donut comes WAAAAAAY too late into the game). Enjoyed the story, the slapstick humor and the precise gameplay (some tight Platformer sections and some excruciating puzzles). Enjoyed this game a lot! A top tier metroidvania in my opinion.
