Cyberpunk 2077

A thing of beauty...with some duct tape

Cyberpunk 2077...I’m not crying, it’s just that bloody sandstorm. Cyberpunk 2077 is not an easy game to review. If the game dev team size and cycle was more realistic, to match the CD Projekt RED ambitions, this could have easily been Game of the Year...most likely somewhere in late 2021, early 2022. I love this game. I'm aware I'm biased as the Nomad storyline and Nomad ending quite personal for me. It is easily one of the best interactive stories told. CD Projekt RED people are getting a lot of heat for the way the game launch has been handled. I’m not going to be repeating that. Instead I would like to thank them for making a RPG light title, with a story I always wanted to experience. For once you are not saving the world as some sort of unstoppable superhero, which somehow become the main plot line in so many RPGs out there. I’m so tired of this lazy writing as a way of motivating the player why they should to care about the game world and the main narrative. For once someone delivered a story I really connect with. A game world in which you learn to care about the people you live with, share their stories and emotions. A deeply immersive world in which you consider yourself lucky if you managed to survive and save at least some of your friends. I loved how this game talked about questions many of us attempt to answer every day. Meaning of life, friendship, love and fear of death. All dressed up in Cyberpunk world, which is still asking all relevant questions about our species and our fate. As my favourite in-game song goes, Cyberpunk 2077 is a thing of beauty. A true piece of art, which sadly, at least for now, feels like its kept together with some last minute duct tape. If you can look past the glitches and few undelivered promises, this is the best storytelling experience I had in a game. Now please, excuse me, I have another play-through in mind and I’m not sure if I will want to ever leave. “It's perfect - all great, Panam. we're goin' home.”
