A typical soulslike in a dark sci-fi setting, somehow similar to Event Horizon. The combat is fluid and fun, if repetitive, but the major focus is on exploration, as the map is very complex and full of secret areas and interconnected shortcuts. If you're into the sensation of being lost and not knowing exactly where you are and where you're supposed to be going, this is the game for you. A bit too obscure, maybe: after having played all four endings, I still have absolutely no idea whatsoever about anything in the plot or lore. Zero. No clue at all.
I've always said that the lore, characters and world of League of Legends are wasted on a MOBA (or any multiplayer game for that matter), and this game is exactly what I've been waiting for years. As a videogame, "Ruined King" is a classic isometric RPG with a fun, if monotonous and sometimes boring, combat system. I suggest playing it on a high difficulty setting, because it's too easy to become overlevelled, but the tactical nature of its combat allow for pretty interesting boss fights. Despite a few bugs, and a little bit of disappointment from it being so focused on Bilgewater and the Blessed Isles, I found myself utterly enthralled by it simply because of its world and its characters. The story is simple, but the way it lets the world breathe and the way it leaves characters ample room for dialogue and personal growth was, for me, more than enough to enjoy the game more than I'd expected. I particularly appreciated the rest point conversations, a feature I'd love to see more often in this kind of game. In short: decent game, nice story, good writing, great characters.
