FTL: Advanced Edition

Infuriating and fun

This game makes me as angry as a game can, because the loop is so good, and the feeling of managing the ship and systems is like controlling my own limbs after a point, that when I die I feel as if my arm was cut off

Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition

Potato Faces, Green Filter, Perfection

Fallout 3 may be a jolt for fans of the Interplay originals, with a new perspective, 3d engine, and developer, but past that is a grand experience in the Fallout universe. Today, the graphics and shooting mechanics are a bit dated (maybe a little more than dated) but if you were a fan of TES IV Oblivion, and wanted guns, here you go. The game contains beautifully crafted assets, from guns to teddy bears to ruined skyscrapers, and a killer ambient soundtrack. Quests can be hit or miss for quality, but most offer a bit of dark humor that is characteristic of the series, and the main plot may leave something to be desired, but the immersive world keeps you engrossed even if you decide not to quest at all. Exploration and discovery are big pieces of this game, and there is a lot to see, so subsequent playthroughs keep you finding new things. The DLCs are nice, and since they are included, you get the full experience. Point Lookout is a hill billy feverdream of nightmarish swamps and crazy cultists, 5/5. Mothership Zeta is a fun experience and takes the game to Earth's orbit + Squid Food, 3/5. The Pitt is gross, and it will kick your butt, 3/5. Operation Anchorage is a crazy arctic deathstorm full of campy acting (intentional) and simulated commie ass-kicking, 6/5 for freedom. The final DLC, Broken Steel, has ups and downs, and keeps you in the Capital Wasteland after the original main quest ends, more fun, more guns, more fighting, 4/5. Overall, the game is worthy of a run or two, and provides many hours of content even for those who stick strictly to quests, so go ahead and buy it.
