I can't recommend this port as the definitive way to experience the original resident evil and while i understand that GOG is trying to preserve the game in it's original state, i think they've picked the wrong version to preserve. From what i've noticed it seems GOG used the windows 95 version of the game, due to that the fmvs, as well as audio is heavily compressed causing the experience to be quite painful to listen. It also changes jill's campaign to remove the use of ink ribbons on the first playthrough which i'm pretty sure only windows 95 does that. GOG has an amazing oppurtunity to make this the best version of resident evil 1 and i really do hope they'll update the game to fix certain issues that are still present as well as allow a bit more control over ceratin aspects of the port. A fan patch of this game (REbirth) has been present for quite some time now, allowing players to use custom resolutions, quick turn like in resident evil 3 and manually reload your gun. GOG should be aware of what they're competing with, but i still praise the team for allowing this to be a quick and easy game to get access to in a playable state. GOG i really hope you consider adding features like: - custom resolutions (4:3), - bilinear filtering (some prefer smooth over crunchy) - quick turn, - skip in-game cinematics, - manual gun reload, - higher quality fmvs, as well as audio (MediaKite Port), - volume options,
