The game is awesome. People say that it's "not Gwent anymore" or that it's "completely different game", but as long as you approach it with an open mind, you will enjoy it. In it's core, it's still the same Gwent. Gwent where sometimes you give up a battle to win a war. I will say that it's even more Gwent than before - thanks to the changes, factions actually have identity, going first is not as painful as it used to be and rows started mattering again. Visually it's much more appealing too - Gwent has the best card arts in whole card game market, thanks to the fact that they are bigger we can fully see how great they are. Some things changed, that's true. For example, usually core of your deck will consist of gold cards, while before golds were fillers that supported bronzes. But as long as you won't get overly nostalgic, you will enjoy the game. But you will know the best by checking it out yourself! Would you rather see yourself if the update that fixed the biggest problems of Gwent is worth playing, or do you want to trust people who gave it 1 star literally on the same day the game was released (23rd October)? Ask yourself this question. If you decide to give it a try - see you on the battlefield!
