Take the fantasy elements out of a game like Elder Scrolls Oblivion and this is what you get. A great example of Medieval times. Don't expect to jump in and take out an entire army yourself...at least not anytime soon (afterall, you're not a Noble and having/affording/looting good armor can make the difference). Progress can be slow but very rewarding when you practice your skills. Just as in real life, it takes time to master certain skills but when you do "get it", you can be a force to be reckoned with. Enough side activities to keep you busy and get lost in this world.
