One of the best simulation strategy games ever made, the word epic at the time was meant for a few shy games that made the cutting edge of wowdom that could not compare to other games. Alpha Centauri is one of those greatest games of all time that we will never forget. Just like a SimCity, but combined with a Real-Time Strategy combat sim, and throw in a little Masters of Orion, and dabble some Civilization and there and you have the masterpiece that is Alpha Centauri. This game keeps on giving out even well after its hours of game play seem to be peaked.
Empire Earth combines a combination of endless ages of advancement, with resource harvesting, offensive and defensive tactical strategies, and operational awareness. While not as pretty as Age of Empires, Empire Earth gives players more freedom to do what they want how they want, as well as multitudes of technology, and units in which to defend and attack their foes. Empire Earth combines a good amount of storytelling scenarios with a good basis of PvP worlds, as well as a world creator. Very few games strive to be as good as the Original Empire Earth, including Civilization. Since its all Real-Time there is no turns, you must think on your feet, and prepare for the best and the worst.
You don't get much better than an original sim city, especially SimCity 2000, this game has made the basis for all the simCity's to follow, and have made the world of developing a old to new society a epic challenge from when you first start off with your first 50,000 to your big bucks. Just like most economic games it about how you can improve life, economy, and safety of your city and still make a profit. While not as great as SimCity 3000 or 4. This game still has a cutting edge difficulty that keeps you hooked. And crashes far less then its older brothers.
Great game, full of fun, and upgradability, one of its first that introduced a upgrade system that wasn't all contained to the shooting scenes. I say the 2nd Most Classic Topside gunner, cause we all know Major Stryker is the first and foremost Classic of this kind of series. Now if I can get a playable version of Terminal Velocity I'll be happy.
I loved this game, I had the Demo Disc that came with a couple of my games back in the good old days of gaming with the huge 7" Boxes. Very fast paced, constantly moved you from vehicle to vehicle to turret to vehicle and kept you on your toes. One of the first games I played that I learned the meaning of "Friendly Fire" Incoming takes you from Turret, to Tank, to Aircraft, to Alien Craft, to All kinds of freaky fun.
One of the greatest games as far as RTS's go, and the last of its kind. Masters of Orion combines a great deal of empire control, civilization systems, research, and design behind the whole structure making it the ultimate RTS. While the graphics are a bit laxing as far as the combat, the rest of the game is great. Masters of Orion 3 is something that all RTS's of the general genre should strive to be or strive to improve. If only there was a MOO4 or Homeworld 3.
