Usually I don't touch such games but it has the assist mode, allowing you to adjust the difficulty to your liking. I had an amazing time with this title. While the facial animation of the human characters are rather plain, and the voice acting passable to forgetable. The gameplay is really good. Various weapons to try out and some of the fight can get challanging, but in the end you moustly fight the same enemies a lot. Regardless, I had a very good time playing it. The maps are large and at times really beautiful. Others are dark and filled with bodies. If you are not a souls fan, this game will make it easier for you to get a taste of it when having the assist mode enabled.
Part 1 and 2 were really good games. Both had good endings that felt concluded, yet left open for more. Then 3 came along and there things started to go down hill. Besides some amazing visuals and beautiful music, it strived away what made the first 2 so charming. Especially with he depressing ending 3 offered. This game now, while nice to see how Kate is doing, the puzzles, well, if you can call them puzzles, tells you what to do. 'Open that lock.' No, really? I would have never figured that one out after I found a key. There isn't any freedom how you traverse the maps. You are forced to go from point A to point B. Maybe look at something here and there but that is it. Besides being visually amaizng to look at, gameplay wise, it has nothing really to offer. I'm really on the fence with this one if I even bother to get the full game. 3 already disappointed me, and from the looks of it, 4 doens't look any better.
Never played the original 2 as I always hoped it will be released on PC one day. Also I am not a big fan of isometric games. Nevertheless, I had the pleasure on playing it on the PS4 first, also at a heavy discount. While I did manage it, it is better on PC when you have full mouse control. The style is nice and I was excited to see the next cutscene. But the voice acting is just dreadful. No emotions in any of the stressful situations or any situation as such. It's like the actors were just requested to read the lines out. Also this must be the worst French- and Aussie accent I have ever heard. The tactical option is more of a joke. Yeah, you can direct each character where to go and who they should shoot but the aftermath does not change that they still get shot at and just stand still after following their given path. Stealth is alright at the beginning of the game but later on it is more action driven. The AI is not very good as they midlessly run into your fire, occasionally take cover. And don't get me started on the underwater level. That is by far the worst part of the game with its quick healing monsters who still damage you regardless hitting air and incoherent where to go at times. Plus the character you play shoots slowly. Regardless the negativities listed, it is engaging to keep playing. The romance between Hana and Rain is alright but heard that it was more daring in the previous titles with their sexual desires. Characters as such are alright and written well enough that you wont forget their names asap. The story is cheesy but interesting enough. The soundtrack is very good that it was worth getting the collectors edition, which was a dollar more. It is an OK game and I wnoder how the the remake or remaster will be like as it is an interesting universe.
