I own this game on Steam. I loved it, even if the story and characters paled in comparison to the SR2. But let's be clear, as fun as the game is playing solo, the best play is co-op play. And this GOG version doesn't do online co-op. Disappointing to say the least, as someone who would love to play co-op with his international wife. Still worth buying, but it does feel like only half a game without that online component. Here's hoping GOG can get it working through Galaxy or something.
This game has stunning environments and the middle ages Middle Eastern setting is one I would love to see expanded on in some way. The devs at Ubi meticulously researched names and locations and created a historically accurate replica of the Crusade era Middle East, and injected a fantastic fictional story of parkour assassins into it. The combat can be repetitive at times, but mastering it can be tough at higher levels, and while you can spam the attack and counter buttons, there is a depth to the combat that gives deep satisfaction when you take out a pesky patrol without breaking a sweat. However, if you have ANY hoarder proclivities, this game will keep you wake at night. Flags. That's all I will say. It's well worth picking this game up to try, and I doubt you'll forget the experience.
It looks like a Final Fantasy game from the 90's. It plays like a Final Fantasy game from the 90's. It even has an epic story like a 90's Final Fantasy game. But it's not even close to a Final Fantasy game. I played this game years ago, and have since lost my copy. I now have a place to get it. Thanks GoG. Anyway, back to the game. For a start, Anachronox has the most intelligent and adult humour I've seen in a long time. And in what other game can you have an entire planet as a party member? Or a comic book superhero who actually exists? Anachronox is a superb game. It's buggy, can be frustrating as hell, and often vertigo inducing (Especially the planet Anachronox itself, the impossible gravity is a shock and a half the first time you play) but you will come back to it time and time again.
What else needs to be said about this classic of emergent gameplay. A gritty dystopian cyberpunk setting, a truly enthralling story of international espionage, and gameplay that has to be experienced to be believed. From the very beginning, you're offered a choice, and that's the theme of game from there on in. Choices abound. Do you take the front door to the stronghold, or do you sneak in through the air vent? Are you a run and gunner, or more of a stealth based player? Do you prefer guns, or are you more of a tactical person, turning the enemys tech against themselves? Choices, choices and more choices. Tightly written and excellently paced, this is the way games should be. If you loved Human Revolution, go back to where it all began and experience the original. You owe it to yourself. (We won't mention the travesty of ...*shudder* Invisible War) At $9.99, this game is a steal, and the hours of enjoyment you'll get out of it will more than compensate you. Deus Ex. Gaming Perfection.
