Dreamfall Chapters: The Final Cut

Worthy

Dreamfall Chapters is the last part of a trilogy of titles spanning the better part of 2 decades. While I would recommend it to anyone just looking for a good story driven adventure, this goes doubly true for someone who has been there since the beginning, or even just the second game. You are finally getting to see the end of a rather epic story that has likely held you in wait for a long time... and unlike many things, I have to say this time the wait was worth it.

Dragonsphere

you can do better

Honestly, I can think of a lot better point and click titles then this one, but that does not make it a bad game. It makes it a very average one and a product of it’s time. When I picked it up, Gog.com was offering it as a freebie to everyone who made an account, and as such, it wasn’t half bad. Not sure I recommend it to spend your cash on though.. at least not instead of other games you could spend a couple bucks on that site to get.

Dishonored - Definitive Edition

Freedom in an FPS

There is no denying this is a very good game when all is said and done. It looks great, even today for the most part. It sounds amazing, and plays solid, delivering on the promises made about the game. Now if only it was a more challenging title and the AI didn’t go completely retarded at times, it could have been a complete knock-out. But as it stands, this is one of those games that as long as you like the First Person view, will give you the freedom to find your way to play it, and you will probably enjoy it for that reason alone.

Dex

Rough doesnt begin to say it.

This game is a real shame. I can see the love put into it and under the grime and grit there is serious potential to make something special. However this game doesn't just miss the mark, it throws the damn gun rather then fire it.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

Great unfinished title

Sadly outside of The Fall, this is the weakest Deus Ex game when it comes to plot and intrigue, and the only reason The Fall is worse is because while Mankind Divided never finished it’s story, The Fall didnt even get past chapter 1. However, at the same time for sheer gameplay and ability to play how you want to, this is arguably one of the best I have played in a long time, rivalling even the original game that started the franchise. And this really does leave me of two minds on how to score this game. Almost any other game I would put the gameplay first, but Deus Ex has always been deeply entrenched in it’s story and the conspiracy theories entwined through it, making it a much tougher call here. If you are a fan of the franchise, you should probably pick up and play this game, because for all it’s flaws, it’s still a very good experience within the universe, and quite possibly the last we will ever get. Just don’t get to excited about the plot because it will disappoint you in every way it can. If you get into a game to play with it like a sandbox, you will probably enjoy this game a lot more then most, because even though the game doesn't use vehicles (the world locations are actually to small), it lets you loose to do what you want, and you will have a good time going about it. But if story matters to you, stay the FUCK away from this title. This game is going nowhere good on that front.

Deponia

Just an intro...

Deponia is a short but fun little point and click title. It is far from flawless (especially in the tech department), but it is solid and worth your time to play if the environment it takes place in interests you. It even comes with a few unique quality of life updates to the formula! However, it is also a point and click title, so if puzzles (inventory or otherwise) being the base of gameplay does not appear to you, neither will this game. And finally if you are like me and ending a game expecting a sequel frustrates you, it will end on a sour note.

Darkstar One

Your first Space-Sim

I would not tell you this is the best game ever, as it definitely has it's warts. But if someone was looking for a fun space-shooter, especially if they are new to the genre and want something with a lot of depth in customization/gameplay, but not worry so much about memorizing keyboard layouts or needing a cheat-sheet for the controls, this is a VERY solid choice. True, if you are not interested in flying around in space, dog-fighting and customizing your ship, you should walk away as that is in essence what you are doing. But if this type of gameplay interests you, it's definitely worth your time.

Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition

Great game, but be patient with it.

There is no doubting Darksiders 2 is a great game in it's own right. It has it's flaws, sure, but there is really little on the gameplay side to get in the way of an epic story and a great time. However, the game is also notorious for technical difficulties and I can also attest to this as well. If you have the patience to deal with these issues from time to time and like your action/adventure games, you will have a great time with it. If you played the first one first, you will get even more out of it as the events allude to those in Darksiders, but even as a newcomer, there is nothing important you will have to guess at without that experience first. Unless you don't like action games, I can't see a reason to at least give it a try.

Crossing Souls

DONT FALL FOR IT!

This game is a trap. A great demo which entices you to buy what you think will be a great game, but one that quickly sours when you reach the second half. I managed to keep trying for about 9 hours before I threw in the towel. And for this reason I can not recommend the game. Just play the demo and enjoy what could have been but ultimately was not.

Corpse Party: Book of Shadows

Adds little, answers less

A relatively simple point-and-click adventure wrapped in several hours of visual novel, this game is one definitely designed for a niche audience. That niche gets even smaller when you take into account that you really need to play the game this sequels first before you go near it. And to narrow it down even more, this game isn't going to answer any big questions it itself proposes about the over-arching story of the series. It's only going to answer details that might have some fans of the original game curious. I would say pick this one up on sale if you played and loved the original Corpse Party and maybe only once the game that sequels it comes out so you can actually get the full picture. But most people should probably consider avoiding this title, at the very least for now.
