I have to say that as a long time fan of Legacy of Kain series take the rating with a pinch of salt. The game is the peak distillation of the series where you get to play as both Kain and Raziel, and while they mostly play the same, there are some subtle differences, for example Raziel is faster but Kain hits harder. That graphics are solid, even after all these years it all looks pretty great honestly. The voicework is where this game truly shines though. The game is pretty heavy on the stories and lore and sometimes honestly the cutscenes between gameplay can be a little static, but it all doesn't matter because the actors make a brilliant work of making it all sound compelling and alive. One of my favourite roles of the late great Tony Jay, as well as Renee Auberjonois. If you played any other of the LoK series and enjoyed those at all, you will love this one. The only real pain I would say is that the camera is terrible, and often difficult to control, but I would say that the rest of the game more than makes up for it. It is a Crime that the setting of Nosgoth doesn't get more stories these days.
I have to say, I am really enjoying this game. While it can get monotonous, if you are into this kind of a space shooting / freelancing, you won't mind the monotony. One thing that takes some getting used to is that the game doesn't allow you to change your position vertially - but that's probably good, since otherwise you would never be able to line up your broadsides. The game is really polished, has some pretty decent voiceover and a range of activities to keep you occupied while you're not following the storyline, pretty impressive ship designs and fun gameplay. You can trade, but it likely won't ever be your main source of income - I would say that the missions should probably pay a little more than they do, because as it is it takes a lot of grinding to move forward with upgrading your equipment and ship. Pros: You get to fly at least a frigate, with destroyers in the future, the shooting and destruction of enemy ships is satisfying, the story doesn't seem half bad, the graphics are really pretty and it can be pretty addictive Cons: Grinding, lack of proper tutorial, takes quite a bit of getting used to in terms of not being able to move vertically. I would say overall 9/10 but I'd give it 5 stars because it's more a 9 towards 10 than 8.
