Total garbage! (literally ;) Surprisingly fun game with a fun story and characters... very short, but........ sweet as a dozen donuts! Some fun achievements to go for as well... all in all a solid experience from start to finish. Can easily play the entire game in one sitting. Soundtrack stinks too!!!
Played this when it came out and loved every bit of it... I remember the game getting mixed reviews, but for me, I really enjoyed it... the vibe, the graphics, the gameplay, the XCOM universe, it all just clicked for me. It is an action game, so check out the gameplay videos so you don't go into it thinking it's a traditional XCOM game. For the introductory sale price, you really can't go wrong here! Thanks 2K and thank you GOG! One less thing I have to fire up that other game client for ;)
This is a launch day review after only playing for a few hours, but hopefully it will be helpful for anyone on the fence. If you're into 2D Souls-like games like Unworthy and Salt and Sanctuary, you'll like this... it sticks real close to trying to bring as much of that Dark Souls feel and mechanics in without getting into legal trouble. The art is gorgeous, some interesting characters you'll meet, tons of branching paths with secrets and hidden paths to items, there's some great voice acting for dialog, several classes to choose from, skill trees to customize your play with. That being said, it's not perfect by any means, but I don't see any glaring issues that can't be resolved with patches. The high refresh rate fullscreen issue right now can be solved with NVIDIA Inspector... I'm playing on a 144Hz display in fullscreen at a locked 60FPS with no issues... here's my settings: https://i.imgur.com/4KF9vqr.png I have run into some bugs and glitches so far... worst was (and it was kind of hysterical) I found that hitting F12 to take a screenshot was adding an enormous amount of "souls" to my inventory... like 100,000,000 per hit... after just one hour of playing, I had enough to max my character to L150 (the max before NG+)... I had to pull a save backup prior to that happening so I could continue out without a glitched God mode.. I read it's something that's there in debug mode, but I was playing with a controller and only hitting F12 to take some screenshots, so not sure how I got it into debug mode. But all in all, it's got me hooked, there's enough there even in its current state that I'll be sticking with it till the end without waiting for patches. Just know that if you get it now, there'll be some rough edges to deal with.
This game is still not ready for primetime and who knows if it ever will be. The things that are broken and janky are far too numerous to list and they vastly outweigh the few things that actually work. It feels more like I bought an idea than an actual functioning game. If GOG had Steam's return policy, I would've put this money towards another game here that's worthy of the asking price, cause I feel duped with this one... I'm going to shelve it for a while and possibly check it out after they've (hopefully) patched some life into it. In summary... great concept, horrendous execution.
If you like Dead Man's Draw or Solitairica, you'll get a lot of enjoyment out of this. Presentation is great, atmoshphere and music are great, art is wonderful... lots of weapons, abilities and gear to unlock, points to spend... really neat mechanics throughout that add twists and new tactics along the way... the story is decent and an added bonus to keep the game moving along... I'd say my only gripe is the art on a 1440p display, you can tell the art is being upscaled a tad, so it gets slightly pixelated but not a deal breaker... overall a fun, relaxing game and well worth the price... it definitely gives me that "one more round" urge!
Can't believe this made it on to GOG! I bought and played this on Steam, but bought again here for the DRM-free copy. This game figuratively blew my mind wide open. It's so creative, so engrossing and engaging... around every corner and story, it was constantly surprising me with things I've never seen done in a video game before. This game is just so well done, it belongs in every gamer's library. The stories will stick with you long after the credits roll. Thank you GOG for bringing this here!
Visually stunning game... vibe/gameplay make me think of Shadow Tactics and Satellite Reign, but with just a single character to manage. There's a few rough edges in its launch state... some technical, some mechanical. The game defaulted to a 30FPS cap, so don't panic if it happens, there's an option in the menus to up it... it also crashes upon exit randomly. It's an Unreal title, so it's really solid with frame rates/performance... I'm on a 165Hz G-SYNC 1440p display with a 1080 Ti and it maxes out those frame rates silky smooth. Gameplay-wise, there are some frustrating mechanics issues like no indication the enemy's field of view, so it's hard to judge when they'll see/detect you... traversing over small objects will break your sneak/crouch just to have to hit the crouch again... the game doesn't really tell you everything you need to know right off the bat, so going into the menus and looking through the tutorials will be a big help starting out... there's no way to hide bodies? (seems strange for a stealth game)... controls could use some finesse in general... I played with both M/K and an Xbox One controller... I think I prefer the controller right now... But besides those things, there's a lot to love here... game encourages exploration/experimentation, the atmosphere is awesome, everything is super polished... menus, sound, etc. The hacking mini-game is really fun. I would say it's a solid buy right now (if you're on the fence) knowing that some massaging through some patches will probably address the issues it has right now. Really glad to finally play this and hope the devs find succeess with it!
