Gibbous - A Cthulhu Adventure

Good in theory, plays like a chore.

I really want to give this game a good note, but it's just a chore to play. Some of the puzzles are obvious and not rewarding, while others are too complex or depend on a single, easy to miss interaction... and are not rewarding as well. There are lots of characters around that don't really contribute much to the story... Oh right, there's a story. It's boring and not engaging. In fact it could be gone and I wouldn't even notice. The whole game feels like it's focused on telling the jokes... Which is fine, but I expect something to go through the game. Otherwise these could be just random joke videos. Let's summarize starting with positives: - lots of jokes that I find funny - Nice art and locations - Pretty good voice acting Weak points of this game are: - Boring and uninspired story - Some of the jokes feel forced - The puzzles tend to be unbalanced, either too easy or too abstract.

Runaway: A Road Adventure

Not much fun, unfortunately.

Runaway has a list of problems that make it very hard to enjoy the game: - Some of the puzzles depend on player finding an item, but there is no option to highlight available items nor do they stick out from the background. - Some of the interactions are different after first or second time (and sometimes only after some criteria are met) - The story is told by the main character as a narrator. He's not funny or entertaining, so these unskippable segments are pretty boring. - Order matters when combining items. All of this makes the gameplay pretty boring as it often consists of me desperately trying to figure out whether I've skipped an item combination, didn't interact for the second time with something or missed an item (and let me tell you these can be tiny). All that work makes it hard for me to enjoy the story.

ELEX

Disappointment.

I've spent 8 hours in this game and I didn't like any minute of it. The game feels unfinished. The world is empty and boring. The NPCs are colorless; I couldn't care less about anyone. The story is not interesting and the whole place seems more like a sandbox with few things added than an actual RPG. Music is nothing to write home about either. I've played some hard games, but they were rewarding and had something to keep you going. I forced myself to sit through those hours to get to the good part. It never arrived. You'd better not waste your time on this. If you wanna nostalgia, play Gothic or Risen,

Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers – 20th Anniversary Edition

Great game, but buggy as hell

The game is really nice, but the remake is buggy as hell. The hint system is often plain wrong, suggesting you do some things you don't have to do(or that you've done). It is also often not clear enough, e.g. does not mention that you have to get certain item first. The game is described better by others, but the bugs... Certain cutscenes did not trigger for me. Certain puzzles required me to reenter the place. Right now, I can't progress (the swamp scene) because the "cut-scene puzzle" makes my cursor vanish. I can't select anything or progress in any way. Restarting the game, etc. does not work.
